Would a Retro Studios made Wario Land game be a good idea?

Because:

1. It's a series which could do a revival, and a new high selling game.

2. It's a series about as popular as Metroid is, believe it or not (sales wise, it's always sold on par or more than the Metroid series)

3. It's designed in a gritty, sort of 'dark' way that would fit Retro Studios and their art team perfectly. Plus, the craziness and different art styles that the games use for different levels mean that Retro could have levels like all the scrapped concept art ideas from Returns.

4. It's a 2D platformer series, and those are doing well recently. A 3DS or Wii one could drastically revive the console if at Returns sales.

What do you think?

Sounds like a good idea to me. And you are rather right stating 2D platformers are doing fantastic recently. I wonder if it has something to do with New Super Mario Bros. Wii. But Kirby is fun (although I only played one level) and Rayman Origins is a ton of fun.

A new Warioland for 3DS would be a good idea. Doesn't really matter who does it, but Retro have a lot of talent and a solid reputation. I think I'd prefer them do a new Donkey Kong Land for 3DS first, but Wario should happen at some stage.

Nintendo are really strong with 3DS Mario games at the moment, but they'll want to have a change of pace at some point. Wario might be just the thing. Next year I imagine they'll want to focus on popular titles for the Wii U, so their 3DS offerings might have to take a backseat for a while.
