I think basic tv will be around for people who just want a TV or monitor for a cheap price, but they be less popular because people want features like being able to play pictures, movies and music files from a USB or SD card inserted into their TV's or Monitor's USB or SD card slot. Being able to watch Netflix, Hulu Plus, iTunes, websites, etc on the monitor or TV without a need for a Wii, 360, PS3, laptop, or extra box to access online content.

Computer monitors also might have the ability to install Apps, and have a touch screen like tablets when you are too lazy to start up your PC, and just want to turn on your monitor to play simple games like Angry Birds, and Plants vs. Zombies, or use Web Apps like a web browser, IM, chat.

The price of smart TV and monitors are expensive now, but overtime they would be cheaper when more cheaper companies like Philips make thems.

I saw very old TV which had a dials which only go go to channel 10, and need a VCR, or Cable Box with a remote to change channels higher then 10 without the dial. I think back then people think they still exist after many years, but now there are no TVs with dial controls like there are now no new telephones being made where you have to move your finger around a dial to make a call.

I think as small lowend credit card computers will be built-into monitors and TVs companies will make more smart TV to try to sell more. I heard people aren't buying as many TVs these days since 3D never caught on.

The tiny Raspberry Pi PC board which cost $25 dollar is small enough to fit in most TV, and monitors cases.
