Would having cool contests bring in more members to a forum or sites?

Yes, I think cool prizes will increase memberships since I know of many sites like NeoBux, Swagbucks, Postloops, Forum Promotions which has a lot of cool services, prizes, and earnings for members, so a lot of members are active.

well I'm running an arcade contest right now and it brought a few people. If I can keep that up I'm sure people will be interested in posting here.

Logan18 had a prize of $20 on his forum and it never started because nobody was interested.

It was in may. I saw it advertised on 2 different forums. Posting contests just don't seem to work.

They also work if you got thousands or millions of followers on Twitter, Facebook, and Youtube, and you tell all your followers about your contest on your social networking accounts,

Yes, if your forum have Facebook, or Twitter Connect, Facebookers, and Twitterers might login to join since it is simple to join. But, I think this only applies to Invision 3 forums since I yet to see a phpBB3 or VBulletin forum which lets users login with their Facebook or Twitter account.

I think there might be a mod for VB, but nothing official like IPB has.
