Would people who stick with Windows 7 for too long be left behind when Windows 9+ comes out?

Yes, people who use 7 would be behind on new Windows 8 shortcut keys, games, and programs which are only available on 8 if they use Windows 7,XP, Vista, and older versions of Windows for as long as possible like after 10+ years after 8 was release, and refuse to upgrade to 8, 9, etc.

I think Windows 9, and future versions of Windows won't go back to the classic Windows 95-7 user interface, and would use an enhanced version of the Windows 8 desktop.

Most new software made by third-parties may also be forced to switch to the full screen user interface in 9 because Windows removed support for Windowed classic programs, more new computer users like kids, teens, and people who are new to Windows like former Mac and Linux users switching to Windows 8, and PC noobies who used 8 would of grown up using the full screen user interface, and never saw or used the classic Windows desktop in 95-7.

There also are hardware and accessories like Stylus/Touch pen, Kinect, motion gesture controls, monitors, and other hardware which will be for 8, but does not work on 7, XP, and Vista.

Umm... I don't i would go beyond Windows 7 or Xp, i tried windows 8, but i didn't like it.

I like 8 since it does not slow down my older computer as much as Windows 7 and Vista which made my computer feel slower. Plus, Windows Explorer crashes less in 8 in my experience. Now my computer is more usable than when I had 7 and Vista installed on it.

I think that it wouldn't be a huge hassle to learn how to use 8 if your new PC comes with it. Learning how to use 8 might come in handy like when you have to use the library, school, friends, family, and public computers which comes with Windows 8 which has a different user interface than 7 and older.

Windows Blue (not sure if this is like Win7/8 or more akin to a service pack) has already been confirmed.

WinBlue will not leave us 7 loyalists out in the dark. There's ReactOS and other FOSS OS for us to move to.

I heard Windows Blue would have the ability to make smaller icons on the startscreen, and let you pin more than two full-screen windows in the fullscreen user interface. Hopefully, there would be a way to pin the Search box to the top of the Startscreen like the Google Android Search widget.

I read Windows Blue would be called Windows 8.1 which will be a service pack to make Windows 8 easier to use.

Are you serious? Usually Windows 8 is bigger than Windows 7 as it is the latest shout.

^Yes, I am serious.

Windows 8 uses less RAM/Memory on my old computer with only 1GB of RAM, 1.86GHz CPU, and a 320GB hard drive .

Windows 8 is also designed for tablets which are slower than desktop pcs, and laptops, so this means slower computers with only 1-2GB of RAM will also run better because 8 is designed for tablets as well.

If you search YouTube, there are plenty of videos of people who installed Windows 8 on computers with 512MB-1GB of RAM, and a 1.6 GHz CPU, and 8 starts up, and run well like this video of a guy with a computer with only 512MB of RAM, and 1.6 GHz CPU.
