wow, ignorant much? People should really think about what they say more before posting stuff like this, especially if you are as famous as Notch. You can lose a lot of fans pretty fast if you keep poking fun at them and ignoring them.

He was just being sarcastic in a humorous way, and also makes a valid point about the low number of Wii U games. A bit of a low blow considering Nintendo's struggles recently, but it's nothing to flip out over.

Well, it just doesn't seem to professional to me. Cheap shoting companies isn't a big deal to some, but there are a lot of people out there that could take it way too personally. I don't necessarily take it personally, as I am and always have been a multi-platform gamer (currently owning a Wii U, Xbox 360 and Xbox One as my primary gaming consoles along with pc). But as I said, it does sound ignorant and something that a snarky 13 year old would say.

Also, I don't even see how it is a valid point, as there are more Wii U games right now then both of the other consoles. If you look at all the games reviewed by IGN, the console with the most games with a score above 7 is the Wii U with 63 games, followed by the PS 4 which has 57 and then the Xbox One with 30.

Of these games reviewed at 7 or higher, the Xbox One has 7 console exclusives (8 if you you count games that are also on Xbox 360 or PC), the PS4 has 6 (21 if you count games that are also on PS3, Vita and / or pc) and the Wii U has 18 console exclusives (24 if you count games also on 3DS and / or PC)

No matter what way you look at it, the Wii U has more in terms of games. Now you can argue that many of the games on the Wii U are "not fun" or that they don't interest you and so on, but then that is not really the Wii U's fault, it just so happens that you have a different taste then what Nintendo offers. It doesn't automatically mean that the Nintendo has no games on it, because the fact of the matter is it has the most games on it. (which honestly is to be expected when the console was out like an entire year before the other consoles).

He was making a point on 1st-party games that have been released, not indie or third-party. Nintendo has not been releasing a lot of its own titles, unlike Sony and MicroSoft who are the main developers of games for their respective systems. Nintendo shows a lot of "soon to be releases" but they take much longer to come out or are simple remakes like Wind Waker HD. I mean, hell, we still haven't seen a Metroid on the Wii U and usually the first three titles to see new consoles are Mario, Zelda, and Metroid - their three biggest sellers.

This still doesn't make sense. I think people just hop on the "Let's rag on the platforms that I don't own" bandwagon. The Wii U has 23 first party games, while the PS4 only has 12 and Xbox One has 13.

Out of the 23 first-party Wii U games, 16 of them were full retail games:

  1. Donkey Kong: Tropical Freeze (Retro Studios, Monster Games, Nintendo SPD)
  2. Game And Wario (Nintendo SPD, Intelligent Systems)
  3. Lego City Undercover (Nintendo SPD, TT Fusion)
  4. Mario and Sonic at the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympic Games (Nintendo SPD, Sega Sports Japan)
  5. Mario Kart 8 (Nintendo EAD)
  6. New Super Luigi U (Nintendo EAD)
  7. New Super Mario Bros U (Nintendo EAD)
  8. Nintendo Land (Nintendo EAD)
  9. Pikmin 3 (Nintendo EAD, Monolith Soft)
  10. Sing Party (Nintendo SPD, FreeStyle Games)
  11. Super Mario 3D World (Nintendo EAD Tokyo, 1-Up Studio)
  12. The Legend of Zelda Windwaker HD (Nintendo EAD)
  13. The Wonderful 101 (Nintendo SPD, Platinum Games)
  14. Wii Fit U (Nintendo EAD, Ganbarion)
  15. Wii Party U (Nintendo SPD, Nd Cube)
  16. Wii Sports Club (Nintendo EAD, Bandai Namco Studios)
(The highlighted games are games that I would personally classify as actual games, and not party-games or fitness games or what have you. There is a total of 10)

Of the PS4's 12 first party games, 5 were full retail games:

  1. Infamous: Second Son (Sucker Punch Productions)
  2. Killzone: Shadow Fall (Guerrilla Games)
  3. The Last of Us Remastered (Naughty Dog)
  4. Knack (SCE Japan Studio)
  5. MLB 14: The Show (SCE San Diego Studio)
The Xbox One has 5 of it's 13 games as full retail games:

  1. Dead Rising 3 (Capcom Vancouver)
  2. Forza Motorsport 5 (Turn 10 Studios)
  3. Ryse: Son of Rome (Crytek)
  4. Xbox Fitness (Sumo Digital)
  5. Kinect Sports Rivals (Rare Ltd.)
So there you have it. Sony and Microsoft both have the least amount of first-party games, and they both have more indie and downloadable games then the Wii U, so the point you made on how Nintendo is not releasing a lot of its own titles is not really true. In fact, almost the opposite is true as the PS4 arguably has the largest amount of indie games out of the 3 consoles.

It probably doesn't strike me as unprofessional because a lot of the things Notch says come off like a snarky 13 year old... And he's likely making comments on the fact that while the Wii U has lots of games, they've sold comparatively little compared to the other systems, on top of the Wii U itself's sales being down horribly over the time it's been released.

The Wii U's games are great, but very few people have actually bought them. There really are only three games that have had a LOT of interest and advertising (DKC:TF, Mario 3D World, and Mario Kart 8) all of which released rather late in the systems struggles so far and two of those three still didn't sell particularly well.

Regardless of the Wii U having lots of quality games (something I don't dispute, I love my Wii U) the systems and games sales have been frankly awful. Better now since Mario Kart 8, but still awful. And it's difficult to compare the list of well selling games when those for the PS3 and Xbox One are doing so well, and both systems have only been out a fraction of the time the Wii U has.

There just isn't any getting around the fact that Wii U sales suck, and their game library (While great) isn't what it could be, or should be. I think by the end of 2015 it will be more like what Nintendo should have had on the table during the Wii U's first year, but for now it's still pretty laughably bad.

So seeing as the Wii U only really has 2-3 games that have garnered much interest in the slightest (Remember, despite the hype around it and the amazing rating, Super Mario 3D World didn't sell anywhere near as well as it deserved too) The comment of "Don't worry Nintendo fans, I love both games for the Wii U, and I'm really looking forward to the third one in 2015!" isn't tremendously off the mark.

I think his joke would be taken better if a Minecraft port for Wii U was on the way.

Gamers have been begging for Notch to put Minecraft on the Wii U, and Mojang hasn't really come up with a real excuse for why they can't port it to the system. The game is available on (or being made for) PC, OS X, Linux, Android, iOS, Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS3, PS4, Vita, and even the Raspberry Pie!

The Wii U would be ideal given Nintendo's current fanbase but Mojang is either too slow or being stubborn about making a Wii U port and it is beginning to anger some people. Jokes like this don't really help the situation.

I can see where you are coming from, and it makes his comment make more sense if it was coming from this point of view. With sales being so low people who do not own a Wii U (or people who do not stay up to date on what is actually on the system) can probably look at the system and go "Wow, there is only like 3 games on this thing and its been 2 years!"

So the problem is not really "The low number of Wii U games" but the poor sales of Wii U games and the system in general.

You need to look up the term "1st-party". A LOT of your list are "exclusives" not "First Party".

Capcom = 3rd Party Dev. Tt Games who makes Lego City Undercover - 3rd-party. And so on. I'm not going to point them all out but over 90% of that list is wrong lol

I have looked up the term "1st Party" before making this list because it was initially unclear to me what would actually qualify as a first party game. The definition I went with for this list was "a first-party game is a title which needs only to have been published by the manufacturer of the console (regardless of who owns the IP of the game)" mostly because it made the most sense to me. If the game has to be made by the company that makes the console to be first party, then Microsoft is basically left with nothing as they don't actually make their own games (nor do they own many studios). Instead they just create contracts with other studios to create games for them and they publish them.

So, basically as long as the console manufacturer was the one who published it, then the game should qualify as a First-party game (because it was the "first-party" that funded and looked after the projects).

If you want to go by "any game that has a third-party developer attached to it is automatically third-party" then the Wii U ends up with 11 games (because games such as Wii Sports Club and Wii Fit U were not made by Nintendo-Owned Studios). The Xbox One ends up with 0.... and PS4 still has all 5 of their first party games.

Edit: Nintendo Published almost every Nintendo game for the NES and even the Zelda games for the CD-i that are so hated yet no one would argue they were made by Nintendo when they weren't. Hope that example helps a bit too ^^

First party means developed by the company who owns the console. For PS3/4/Vita/PSP/PSX it needs to be made by Sony aka developed. For 360/XB1 it needs to be Bungie, Microsoft Sudios, or Rare. For Nintendo it needs to be Nintendo. Publishing = distributing the product aka selling / marketing. That has nothing to do with anything developmentally. Similar to how Atlus publishes a lot of games for other developers but have nothing to do with the developmental process. I hope that helps you understand a bit better.

Out of your above list all that is correct are the following: Kinect Sports Rivals (Rare Ltd.) for XB1. MLB 14: The Show (SCE San Diego Studio) for PS4 and most of the Nintendo ones (Wonderful 101, Sing Party, and Lego City Undercover are not 1st-party). However, you also have to take into account how much longer the Wii U has been out for versus the XB1 and PS4. Most people do not count fitness games or learning games when considering 1st party game releases. True, technically they SHOULD count, but they are often discredited or overlooked. Party and puzzle games also tend to get similar treatment. I think that is the real issue with Nintendo. Most people forget Mario Party (though they'll remember Mario Kart, oddly), for example.
