Xbox Xbox Live is now Xbox Network

The name “Xbox Live” is dead. You’ll still be able to play Xbox games online, but the suite of Xbox’s online services will now be known as “Xbox network,” Microsoft confirmed today to The Verge.

This morning, many Xbox users noticed a small change on the Xbox dashboard. While uploading a screenshot to Xbox Live, some players noticed a reference to “Xbox network” where “Xbox Live” used to be.

“‘Xbox network’ refers to the underlying Xbox online service, which was updated in the Microsoft Services Agreement,” a Microsoft spokesperson told The Verge. “The update from ‘Xbox Live’ to ‘Xbox network’ is intended to distinguish the underlying service from Xbox Live Gold memberships.”

First launched in 2002, Xbox Live allowed players to play Xbox games online for a fee. As of last year, the service is no longer available for the original 2001 Xbox.

RIP Xbox Live name.

Don't like that at all. Xbox Live just sounded so much better and it was easy enough to say. Xbox Network just sounds weird and like something that is not gaming based. Hopefully Sony don't get any ideas and change PSN

I prefer the old Xbox Live name. I feel Xbox Network sound similar to a TV channels name or computer networking term.

Ewww :grimacing:. They should do it as a marketing campaign for a little while to make fun of them.

I can't believe someone out there thought Xbox Network sounded better than Xbox Live.

most likely due to all of the stuff Xbox has going on. It's a network of things

Microsoft may decided to use Network because a lot of people watch TV and follow online video networks on YouTube and Facebook, so many people know what a TV Network is, and may think Xbox Live mostly show live/real-time video of games and live events like concerts.
