This is another reason that turns me off the thought of having an Xbox One.
If you are playing a game "offline" on Xbox One and you reach an achievement, you WILL obtain the achievement, however, it will not pop-up on your screen or show on your gamerscore or profile that you have achieved it until you reconnect your Xbox One to the internet.
Once you reconnect to the internet, at some point, not necessarily immediately you will then see the achievement pop-up, even if you have started playing a different game.
The issue I personally have with this is that if you are playing offline, or you lose your connection, and you are attempting to get an achievement, then you will not know if you have got the achievement unless you connect online.
So for story based achievements where you will not miss them because they are part of the story and therefore unmissable it is not as bad, just annoying, but for achievement where you have to do something specific or do something in a specific timeframe then you will have to either be connected to the internet when attempting to get the achievement or keep trying to get the achievement for a while in the hope that one of the tries was successful and then later on when you do get a connection to the internet you will be able to confirm it.
This is like to be connected to the previous always online connection requirement that was previously overturned. Whether it will be changed or not is unknown.
