Xbox One now supports a trial and unlock feature for games, allowing free demos to be upgraded to the full version of a title without an additional download, just as it works on Xbox 360.
“In the same way that we update the Xbox One OS every month, they update the development system every month,” ID@Xbox boss Chris Charla told Eurogamer. “So that’s something that we recently turned on.”
No ID@Xbox games take advantage of this feature yet, but Charla confirmed that the feature is now “open to everybody.” Trials Fusion, for example, uses the new demo feature on the Xbox One storefront.
Charla also mentioned internal discussions of adding functionality to make finding ID@Xbox titles easier in the digital storefront. However, they won’t be segregated, as “an Xbox One game is a game, is a game.”
There also are “literally hundreds” of ID@Xbox games in development, according to Charla. “Many will be out this year, but still more have been locked in for release further in the future," he said.
Guacamelee! Super Turbo Championship Edition — which we thought was amazing — is the latest title to be released using Xbox’s self-publishing program. Xbox Live Gold subscribers can download the game for free on Xbox One, as part of July’s Games with Gold.
