Xbox One will launch in Japan on September 4, Microsoft has confirmed.

The news ends months of speculation about when the company's latest console will be available in the Japanese market, seeing as Sony's PS4 arrived there in February.

There's no news about how much the console will cost, though 48 game developers including the likes of Capcom, Square Enix and SEGA have all pledged to support the console in the region.

Microsoft previously announced it'd be bringing the Xbox One to 26 new countries this September; the above date, however, only pertains to the Japanese release for now. Expect announcements on the other 25 regions in due course.

It's going to be a dead market for the Xbox one.

Japan isn't going to be a very good market for the xbox. I mean in the past it hasn't done very well. And given xbox one's focus on media this time around, which much of won't function outside the USA, will only make this an uphill battle.

I'd go so far as to say every Asian country is a dead market for the xbox one. Unless they can introduce some radical changes now. Get some of the local channels/content producers/streaming services onto xbox. Or negotiate a deal to bring Hulu and Netflix and etc... to the regions.

Just like these same companies pledged support for Nintendo when their 8th gen console came out? Then silently dropped support afterwards when the thing didn't sell very well?
