Today Microsoft confirmed the long-rumored discless Xbox One, dubbed the Xbox One S All-Digital Edition.

Priced at $250 USD and available worldwide on May 7, the Xbox One S All-Digital Edition is now the cheapest console in the Xbox One family of devices, coming in $50 under the Xbox One S, and $250 cheaper than the Xbox One X.

The Xbox One S All-Digital Edition will retain the form and all the technical specifications of the Xbox One S, including the 1TB hard drive, but will also include digital download codes for Minecraft, Sea of Thieves, and Forza Horizon 3. In the mean time, Xbox One S All Digital preorders are starting to come online at most major retailers.

"The Xbox One S All-Digital Edition is $50 USD less than Xbox One S and we expect to maintain at least this price difference between the two consoles," said Jeff Gattis, General Manager of Platform and Devices Marketing at Microsoft. "As the Xbox One S All-Digital Edition is designed to make console gaming more accessible to more people, especially for new customers that don’t already own a console and want access to the complete Xbox experience without investing in one of our other options, Xbox One X or Xbox One S."

That consistent price difference between the Xbox One S All-Digital Edition and the Xbox One S means that when the latter goes on sale, that price difference is likely to carry over to the All-Digital edition as well, essentially ensuring it will always be the cheapest console in the Xbox One family.

"Functionally, the Xbox One S All-Digital Edition is just as powerful as an Xbox One S – the only difference is that it does not include an optical disc drive and cannot play disc-based media," said Gattis. "It shares the same dimensions as an Xbox One S to help maintain the most affordable price point in the Xbox One family of devices, especially since changes that affect the form of a console can be complex and costly.”

I feel the Disc-less Xbox One for $250 is not a good deal since you can get a new Xbox One S 1TB with a disc drive for $232 on Amazon, and it comes with Battlefield V as a bundled game.

A used Xbox One with a disc drive can be bought from eBay for $200 or less.

Cheaper if you buy at the actual price but who does anyone? Most retailers will have the previous versions for cheaper like froggy mentioned. They really want to milk this console generation as much as possible before the next generation.

I feel game console collectors may buy this console.

But, most Xbox One game console buyer will most likely pick a version of the Xbox One with a disc drive, so they can borrow, rent, and buy disc games which are on sale, or used which is cheaper.

The internet for many users is sometimes not good enough for quickly downloading many huge games at once.

Seems rather pointless. Get a cheaper S with a disk drive and just don't use it if you don't want to. Feel like they are setting the scene for the next console to be fully digital like they first tried with the XB1.

consoles makers think that releasing a new system boost sales, which I'm sure of but not in the long run.
