sourceIn response to the news that its standby "Instant-on" mode was an energy drainer, Microsoft has announced that the Xbox One will soon give users the chance to activate the system's energy-saving mode at its initial console set-up.
This means users will no longer have to manually select the Energy-saving mode in the system's menus, instead being given the choice up front. According to Microsoft, this will give consumers a chance to cut down on power bills while being conscious of their energy consumption.
According to Microsoft, the Energy-saving mode does not have the same benefits as the Instant-On, including a slower startup time and update interruptions.
Microsoft does explain that selecting the Energy-saving mode will save consumers money. In his study of the Xbox One's Instant-on mode's power consumption, writer Noah Horowitz estimated consumers could save up to $250 million per year in future energy bills.
In their statement, Microsoft claims the energy mode selection will be updated "in the coming months."
seems like they could have done this from the start.
