Microsoft has announced the Xbox Play Anywhere program, which will allow games to be purchased once and then played across Xbox One and PC at no extra cost.

I see it as being a plus for Microsoft. It bridges the gap with PC and XBOX owners. Back in the day it was totally separate but that seems to be the thing of the past as Microsoft has finally brought everything under one roof (attempting). We'll see how this develops, but it doesn't hurt Microsoft chances in gaining ground on Sony.

Doesn't it? In opinion is that is kind of negates the point of an Xbox, since you can just get a PS4 and a PC to play all of the games possible.

I don't think so. There is one thing the PC is never going to really beat consoles at, and that is living in the living room without much hassle. Unless you are savvy enough to buy a slim/quiet form factor (usually needs to be custom built/found in niche sites), the PC tower is going to be bulky and noisy. And while Laptops could be an alternative, there is still the other issue: sitting down on a couch, playing games on a big screen.

Besides, a console is easy for people who don't know much about video games to buy, while for a PC you do need to bother researching a bit to get your money's worth.

What this may bring, however, is more money in with perhaps less overhead (UWP anybody?), which is good because it just means there is less of a reason for Microsoft to have XBox exclusives.
