While Sony's latest flagship smartphone, the Xperia Z, has already been announced, the company still has a couple of new devices in the Xperia line to release this year. As reported by Mashable, Sony has announced the new Xperia SP and Xperia L smartphones, due for release this spring.

Smaller than the Xperia Z -- but larger than the Xperia L -- the Xperia SP features a 4.6-inch 720p HD Reality Display, running on the Mobile Bravia Engine 2. Inside, you'll find a 1.7GHz dual-core Snapdragon processor. The rear-facing 8MP camera is capable of capturing 1080P video.

The Xperia L features a 4.3-inch screen at 854 x 480 pixels. But despite its diminutive size, the Xperia L still includes an 8MP rear camera, albeit video capture is reduced to 720p. The device runs on a 1GHz processor. Both the Xperia L and Xperia SP will be available in white, black, or red finish.

They look awesome, and that's not just cause I'm a biased Xperia fan :P

I don't really like the phone's looks, or specs compared to other phones like the Samsung Galaxy S4.

I rather have the Samsung Galaxy S4 if I was looking for a Android Smartphone since the S4 comes with official accessories like a wireless Gamepad controller.

The S4 also is faster, and have better specs.

I kind of feel this phone would have a hard time competing against the iPhone 4S which is now free when you sign up for a 2 year AT&T contract.

With the iPhone, you get official iPhone operating systems updates faster than a lot of Android phones which still use the outdated Android 2.3 Gingerbread OS compared to the newer Android 4.2.2 Jellybean OS.

Plus, a lot of apps for the iPhone still run good on the 4/4S or even 3GS unlike older Android phones made in the same year as the 4S which might not be able to run faster games in high quality like Real Racing 3, and Temple Run 2.

Well not everyone wants to have their phone with an annoying and restrictive contract.

But yeah, it will be hard to compete with the iPhone.

Most likely, these two Sony phones will also come with a 1-2 year contract like most other smartphones like the iPhone 5, Samsung Galaxy S3, etc, or you can buy them without a contract, and pay hundreds more for an unlocked non-contract smartphones and pre-paid phones which uses a prepaid plan.

I also think more people want a Quad-Core CPU on their next Android phone, so the Samsung Galaxy S3, amd Tegra 3 phones, the LG Nexus 4, and other fast phones seem more attractive than a dual-core CPU phone which these two Sony phones have.
