It was a bubble meant to burst.

GTA 6 costed around $2 Billion to make. GTA 5 costed $265 million to make. Rampant speculation that Rockstar intends to sell GTA 6 above the standard $70 price point that's most often used for AAA releases, due to its sheer scale, the game could end up retailing for over $100.
An article I read before on bbc, when GTA V sold around 410 million units, it gave them a net revenue of $781m. So they will have to sell a whole lot more to break even this time. PS5 sold around 70 million units and from each copy sold sony gets a cut and microsoft gets a cut too from each copy sold. Assuming all ps5 and XboxS/X owners buy the game they will still need the PC version of the game sales too this time.

I'm not really a big believer in financial information and stats given out by Rockstar. I think they often throw wild numbers deliberatly to promote.

It's simply not possible that gta 6 costed 2000 million.

While it's true they could do that on purpose too, the game's dev cost will still be a lot more than GTA V's $265 million. Especially with the current game dev cost hike rate.

It doesn't bother me they make or spend a lot of money at all. It's just they are known to make thousands of lies deliberatly to get attention before the release. Last time they were paying for ads specifically talking about lawsuits against them. It was discovered they made up the entire stories for promotion.

And how do you spend 2000 million on making graphics and paying voice people. It seems like a lot.

Game isn't out yet, but I doubt that number is true, even if they factor in everything from game making, to voicing to marketing. Also Rockstar made bank upon bank of money from GTA online, they won't sell the game too much more than 60 or 70 dollars.

You take the salary cost of the various staff members and multiply that by how many people are on the team. Then there’s the varying wages based on what position said staff members have, as not every position gets the same wage.

The process for developing the graphics got more complicated as time/technology has progressed. Things that used to only need a couple of people 30 years ago now need a whole team to do it, especially at the level people expect from a AAA developer.

Even things like the music costs more now. You used to have a composer and he might be the same guy who tries to program the game to run through the console’s sound board to play it back, or just use MIDI software. Oh, it’s not 1997 anymore, so we need actual musicians to perform the music, and it has to be recorded and mixed. That just added another team(s) of people.

Then there’s the office space and equipment needed for the development.
