From Ghilbi, Princess Mononoke, although the visuals for Howl's Moving Castle were pretty splendid and I could appreciate the differences from the book after I'd stopped whining about the differences from the book.

One very underrated movie I think: Tekkon Kinkreet, just because the animation is so unlike the usual Japanese animation style. That doesn't make it bad at all! The colors are rich, the movement is smooth, the characters are so memorable, and I generally really appreciate the entire story--but then, I have a relatively high tolerance for dark and violent anime. This is by Studio 4ºC, by the way, and while Mind Game (another film by them) was too high-brow for me, it was Tekkon Kinkreet that made them my favorite animation studio, so I was beyond thrilled to hear that they teamed up with Atlus (my favorite gaming company) to make Catherine.

Brave Story gave me whiplash between what a dark fairy tale it was, and the whimsy of it all... probably why I generally like it, although it's only my favorite when I'm in a waffling sort of mood.

How about you?

I would say Summer Wars for me.
