A massive open online course (MOOC) is a type of online course aimed at large-scale participation and open access via the web. MOOCs are a recent development in the area of distance education, and a progression of the kind of open education ideals suggested by open educational resources.

I been hearing a lot about free MOOCs in the news, online, etc and they seem pretty interesting, and kind of reminds me of forums, blogs, and social networks, but for learning about topics, and probably suffer less from a single website being knocked offline by a hacker or technical difficulties then a paid online course since the content for the course can be found on many sites like Wikipedia, Blogs, forums, YouTube, etc according to the video I posted above, and it maybe easier to find study partners since there might be students available to study with online on a chatroom, forum, blog, and website.

I think MOOCs would be good for learning about topics like comedy, public speaking, grammar, spelling, math, coding history, and psychology since those topics don't need hands-on tools like a hammer, saw, knife, etc which could be harder to learn how to use online if you never used hand tools before, or don't own hand tools.
