WinPatrol's Host-based Intrusion Prevention System(HIPS) takes snapshot of your critical system resources and alerts you to any changes that may occur without your knowledge. WinPatrol was the pioneer in using a heuristic behavioral approach to detecting attacks and violations of your computing environment. It continues to be the most powerful system monitor for its small memory footprint.

If I already have antivirus software why do I need ThreatFire?

ThreatFire is dramatically different to traditional antivirus software. Normal antivirus products usually need to have first identified and seen a threat before they can provide adequate protection against it. The protection is then provided via a signature or fingerprint update, which must first be written by an antivirus researcher. This creates a large window of time where threats are undetected and can therefore infect your PC even when you have antivirus software installed.

I think Bad virus Behavior program blockers can be a good idea for computers with a lot of RAM or are fast since it shouldn't slow down your PC too much and add extra protection. But, if your PC is super slow, it will be a bad idea since having an extra program run in the background can make your computer even slower.

I actually use WinPatrol, it is very good software and I have been using it since 2002. It always lets me know whenever something is trying to edit the registry or add itself to my Startup folder..

I also use the Nuts feature to block certain cookies from my computer, and it give me detailed information about the running processes and with the option to disable them permanently.

I might use WinPatrol, especially now that my anti virus subscription has expired and my computer is completely defenseless.

Winpatrol NOT antivirus software, it is a system diagnostic tool, it is completely different from A/V software.

If you need a free A/V, I suggest that you go with Avira Antivirus.

It got 4.5 stars on PC world.

I have been using the free version for a little more than a year now and I have not had any problems.

Here is the download link.

I think that it is very user-friendly, but then again, I am very computer literate.

I think I will look into WinPatrol.

I'm glad they did not say they block the "Alexa toolbar" like some spyware companies who claim it is spyware while most people claim it is a regular toolbar which is useful for internet marketeers, and people who want a Google toolbar alternative.

Regclean could be a fake registry cleaner which is actually a trojan. I read more viruses are renamed as legitimate looking programs so they look more trustworthy compared to trojan.exe .
