YouTube has already changed the way that many internet users get their video content, but that isn't stopping the user broadcasting giant from continuing to make improvements to their service. The company has announced that they plan on offering a new high-quality streaming option in the form of full 1080p HD resolution, which will be playable on the new full-screen player they will be rolling out.
The news was dropped by Hunter Walk, YouTube's director of product management, during the NewTeeVee conference earlier today, who says that both 1080p content the full-screen player will be available to users within days. Currently the highest quality offered on YouTube is 720p.
Have you already uploaded a bunch of 1080p content? You won't need to go back and resubmit, as YouTube co-founder Steve Chen revealed that all content on YouTube is stored at its original resolution, and that they've already re-encoded about 50% of the 1080p sitting in their database so that it'll be available for optimal viewing.
YouTube admits that only 10% of all playbacks are done using the high-quality player, but they want to continue to push the tech envelope, which may even include a non-Flash video player in the future.
