YouTube has announced plans to launch a website and app focused entirely on delivering video game content.
YouTube Gaming will have dedicated pages for more than 25,000 games, with each serving as a hub where users can access videos and live streams. Content will be published by video game publishers and YouTube creators.

About time they did something like this in my opinion, I think it is a great move from YouTube and I cannot wait until launch.

This sounds good for gamers who enjoy watching video game videos. Hopefully, there would be different sections for videos like video game walkthroughs, tutorials for games, video game cheat codes, and tricks, and live streaming.

sounds like a good move, now if that just did that with anime....

So what will happen to all the let's plays that have been uploaded so far on YouTube? This is will cause some chaos at the beginning, and let's players will be confused about which of the sites to use...
I'd presume they appear on both or at least the old content redirects to the new website? i.e. visiting PewDiePie's channel will redirect you to the new site.

I know there are already a few similar sites to Twitch out there but none are as good in my opinion.  Hopefully this new YouTube site will be able to provide some competition and allow both sites to benefit.

I actually just blogged about this topic recently: http://geekysweetie.com/youtube-gaming-live-streaming-service-compete-twitch-tv-sign-early-access/

My understanding is that content will exist in both youtube.com and gaming.youtube.com

The difference is that when a user browses gaming.youtube.com the following will happen:

All non-gaming related search results will be removed. The example youtube gave was if you type in "Call" you'll only see Call of Duty, not Call me Maybe

Gamers will be able to add a game to their "collection" whatever that is? And upon doing so they will receive updates about new videos posted for a specific game. Good way to track news, trailers, gameplay footage etc for upcoming games if you ask me.

Live-stream content will be "front and center" (probably have the majority of the front page) Alongside this they will also still offer game trailers and lets plays.

You will no longer need to schedule a live event in advance which is the current way live stream works on youtube. Instead you can stream at any time much like you can on twitch.

---------------------------

There are some draw backs though. As I mention in my blog article, from the feedback I've seen in the gaming community thus far I've noticed the following:

"The problem is that Twitch already has a huge following of gamers, both those streaming their screens, and those who wish to watch others playing the games.

Youtube has also been victim to false DMCA claims lately which has the community concerned in how music from their gaming streams would be handled in the new gaming streaming service."

I will love this. I actually upload my own gameplay and hope to one day reach more people, so they can watch it. www.scapa.ga

Hmm, this looks like an interesting idea but it seems more like a gimmick to me. From what I've gathered it wouldn't be available for Europe, at least when it's launched so I won't be able to use it for a while.
I'm curious to see how it turns out!

Well, that's disappointing. So it will be US-exclusive? Isn't PewDiePie, the biggest Let's Player ever European?

Also, it seems that it will just be a subdomain of YouTube, not a new site altogether.

I hope that YouTube decides to expand this outside of the United States. I've got some cousins in Jordan that would really love this since they're avid gamers. Maybe if this turns out successful, YouTube will think about moving it to other countries? I'm kind of torn about this move, anyway. I feel as though it's definitely going to prove confusing until all of the little kinks are worked out. I think I'll probably try it out a month or so after it launches so that I'm not caught up in the initial problems that are bound to occur.

I watch a lot of Let's Plays and general gameplay and game-related content on Youtube, I think this will be a sweet thing to use to keep it all in one place, but I hope they give it a unique design that can look more... gamer-friendly :D The original design looks a bit too normal.

If they wanted to be fully into the gaming video business this is what they should have tried in the first place instead of trying to purchase twitch. Not to mention they waited too late when you think about it. The FCC wouldn't have stopped the sale if this had been 4 years ago or earlier when twitch was so powerful.

I don't know how I feel about this. Look at how they try to force G plus on everyone. Not to mention how they are running youtube into the ground. I hope this doesn't catch fire. For gamer's sake

I hope Amazon really crushes this the way Facebook is crushing Google Plus. Google USED to be a great company. The used to be all about the people when they were young.

But now as they became a mega giant they've been all about trying to control everything we do. They run their services like Tyrants. Adsense, Youtube, Adwords, etc. All of them have the strictest rules without ANY sort of consumer recourse.

We know they're big. But they may be a little late to the party on this one. Twitch has pretty much cemented itself as the defacto for live game streaming ang gaming shows.

Not to mention justin.tv and Ustream have become viable secondaries. You can never count out a powerhouse like Google. But this might be one of the fights they lose on.

I feel like it'll fall flat on its face. Honestly, there are a few very popular platforms that're already like this (Twitch, for example), and I highly doubt that a lot of the more popular gaming YouTubers will migrate untoward this, unless specifically forced to do so.

It just seems like one of those things that new YouTubers are going to try out and either make a community out of, or will abandon entirely.

I do hope that it succeeds though. Seems interesting!
