Nintendo's E3 2011 press conference certainly started off with a bang, as Shigeru Miyamoto (famous Nintendo developer and Zelda's daddy) unveiled the company's plans to celebrate the franchise's 25th Anniversary. One of the things he revealed was that a downloadable version of The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords would be coming to Nintendo's portable download service this September. The price? Absolutely free.

Of course, there are two different versions of this title -- the GameCube adventure and the Game Boy Advance multi-player option -- and at the time of the conference it was unclear which one we'd be getting. However, according to joystig, the company has finally confirmed that it will indeed be the GBA version coming this fall.

Please be a sign of things to come...

There's still no word on whether this means we'll also be seeing the portable version of A Link to the Past, which was originally packaged in with the title, available for download. It does seem unlikely considering Miyamoto-san has voiced interest in working on a full remake of the SNES classic. We're also not entirely sure how multiplayer will be handled, though we're hopeful local and perhaps even online options will be made available.

While there are still questions to be answered, this revelation potentially means cool things for the future of the eShop. It's the first GBA port to make its way to the download service. We already have Game Boy and Game Boy Color games on the eShop's virtual console, with Game Gear games on the way soon. There's no reason that all of those awesome GBA games we're still lugging around shouldn't be available as well. Hopefully Nintendo isn't just a tease, and it won't be long before the big GBA announcement comes our way.

Will you pick up Four Swords when it's available? What GBA games would you like to see on the eShop? For that matter, what Game Boy, Game Boy Color, and Game Gear titles do you hope make the cut?

I'm sure GBA games will turn up on the eShop eventually. N64 games are on the Wii Virtual Console, and GBA and N64 are both two generations older than the 3DS and Wii, respectively.
Although you can't really call Zelda: The Four Swords 'a sign of things to come', since it'll actually be on DSiWare, not the eShop Virtual Console.

It's possible GBA games will be released on the DSiWare equivalent rather than the e-Shop.
