1 BILLION Angry Birds downloads!

Whoa, I really wouldn't expect this many downloads whether most are repeats or not. That's a good chunk of people, wow.
I'm going to research this further, if this is true, wow. I can't imagine the money the owner(s) have made from this game. Astounding.

Hold on! One billion downloads does not mean that one billion people downloaded the app. As popular as Angry Birds is, I doubt that one out of seven people on the planet have played it. People often reinstall the app many times and install it on several of their devices.  Hell, I'm pretty sure I've installed Angry Birds at least a dozen times on my IPhone and my IPad. Also I suspect that every time the game is updated it counts as another install.

ILVS2 makes a good point. One billion downloads doesn't mean that it's been played by all those people who downloaded it, as I myself only downloaded it to check it out and I almost immediately deleted my app after a few minutes. However, I still think that's very impressive since it's obviously become a cultural phenomenon and I myself surely find it hard to imagine making a game that would receive such attention. Congratulations to Rovio, I think they did really well on capitalizing on their initial success.

Not a surprise. These casual mobile games have their place in almost everyone's pockets. I see almost everyone having this game. I've actually uninstalled Angry Birds from my phone as it no longer appeals to me, but, when I played it initially, the game was very appealing and interesting. The green piggies were fun to hit. The various types of birds were cool as well. And, even if Rovio earned cents from the free version in advertising and stuff from each user, they must have made a really big profit.

Not that surprising really. A cheap cash in, stealing from a previous game though it may be, but it's an addictive concept, that can't be denied.

Just like with Flappy Bird, I can't really understand the craze with this game.
That said, maybe I'm just getting old and outdated :(

In any case, 1 billion is still quite the feat and makes you wonder how much Rovio is worth as a whole. I know they released a new RPG-centric game recently that I should give a try.

I guess it's because the game is very accessible, anyone can pick it up... It's easy and fun. Now that all the hype is gone and everyone is kind of tired of it there might be a lot of criticism as to why it would gain so much fame. The fact of the matter is that it did, billions of people got it, the developers got rich, they clearly had a good idea so... kudos to them.

I actually didn't expect Angry Birds to get that many downloads. I've followed them every time they released a new copy, and I usually see at least a million downloads or more. It's pretty amazing to see over a billion though. I wonder how much money they make from their ADs.

I don't think I'll ever be able to fathom just how Angry Birds got successful. I mean this type of game is nothing new, you've had them all over the internet in various editions before, what's so special about this? A different concept? Just because it's a bunch of birds and not weapon projectiles? Maybe better visuals? Unnecessary hype? Who knows, but I never really got it.

It's definitely crazy how many people had the game, in like one week everyone I knew had it and was talking about it constantly. I have no idea how it managed to sweep through the world like that, it's pretty amazing actually.
