Yep, looks like Nintendo has announced a new 3ds design on their Nintendo Direct conference.

From the looks of it, it's basically a 3DS version of the DSi XL with a few things possibly moved here and there.

Unfortunately, since it was literally just announced, I don't have any pictures yet, but I'm sure those will be fast on the way. In any case, what do you make of this?

i do not know its cool i guess

Seems quite unnecessary, TBH.

Here's a comparison photo of it though (compared to the standard 3DS):

But....still no second circle pad?

It looks like something LeapFrog would release.

On a positive note, at least the Start button looks easier to tap than the current one. Who made that design decision? I find it near impossible to tap it when it's dark and I can't see anything.

IKR? They should have at LEAST made the buttons glow...
The only way i would buy this is if its region free (unlikely) and what does "size variation model (the jap text)" mean? Is there different 3DS-es coming?

Oh mah gawd yes glowing buttons! If only it were true!

This. I already replied to an earlier thread; now I'm settled. No way in hell. In fact, this is backwards. Why on earth would they make something resembling the DS Phat as opposed to a "Lite" version? Who is the target audience? I mean sure the bigger screens will be nice, and yes the better button-style of the 3 bottom buttons is convenient, but seriously what's the point?

What? Buy this and give up my Zelda limited edition? I know I'm not a Zelda fan... But NO. I already HAD one system before this one. I'm not doing another system transfer unless Nintendo make a Yoshi 3DS. And there's no need to get an XL. After playing Pearl several times on the DSi XL I decided not to get one if the 3DS got one, the image looked massive and really bad quality that was heavily pixelated. No, I'll keep my one, thank you.

Agreed. What's worse is check out all that space under the ABXY buttons... couldn't have thrown in the second circle pad? Nintendo and their blunders make me shake my head.

My god,is that thing CLUNKY. No,serously. I hate the new design, and I'm never touching it. Dead serious.

I HAD an XL. The Mario 25th aniverssery one. And that one had TERRIBLE pixel graphics. Giant 3D screen? I don't even wanna know.

Hmm...I dunno. They say it will have a longer battery life, but the overall design looks uglier IMO. (I don't really care about second circle pads that much)

Wait, did they just say an AC ADAPTER will not be included???

So this is coming out in the US sometime in July. There WILL be an AC adapter, but no charge dock. Will come with a 4gb card instead of a 2gb one. Red and Blue will be launch colors.

Still not picking it up.

There's no second Circle Pad because it would be pointless. Nitnendo wouldn't use it, and neither would most third parties.
The Circle Pad Pro was always, and likely always will be, a niche, mainly 3rd-party peripheral. Very few games will ever used a second Circle Pad. It wasn't even Nintendo's idea. It was Capcom who convinced them to release the Circle Pad Pro (for Monster Hunter 3G).

You think a 3DS Lite is a good idea!?
The 3DS is very nearly as small as it can get already. Why on Earth would you want a smaller one!?
The 3DS XL is a far better idea. Bigger screens and a bigger console all-round, meaning it's easier for gorilla-handed people to hold.
And it in no way resembles the original 3DS. The original 3DS had lots of extraneous plastic and hollow space inside, which was how they were able to make the Lite so much smaller. The 3DS XL is, by the looks of things, still thinner than the original DS; all of the internal space is used up with components. Just as it is with the normal 3DS (which is a big reason a why a Lite version would never happen).

Made a correction to your post.

A second circle pad would be useless here because the circle pad pro not only adds a second circle pad, but also zr and zl buttons, and because games are already made using the circle pad pro, they wouldn't support a second circle pad without those other extra buttons. Also, to be honest, I though the bigger screens looked good, it only would be very pixelated if you had your eyes straight in front of the screen

Stop complaining. There's no one forcing you to buy it. I will purchase this. I would love to support Nintendo. That way the have more money to work on better games. Stop complaining about something that you don't have to get.
