This is ridiculously depressing to read about:

Apparently 67% of polled republican voters think violent games are more 'dangerous' than guns?

What do you think is a bigger safety threat in America: guns or violent video games?
Guns ............................................................... 14%
Video games ................................................... 67%
Not sure .......................................................... 19%

Wow, talk about stupidly blaming media and trying to gloss over bigger problems. Are people usually this ignorant?

What do you think of this whole thing?

My god, it's not violent video games that cause violence!!! It's people being stupid / mental problems that cause all these shootings.

Those stupid republicans better not take our video games away, or there will be problems with us gamers.

I wonder what will happen when they make video games illegal and realize the shootings are still going on.

So, pushing a button that causes a series of harmless virtual commands to take place is worse than pulling a trigger that can instantly kill a person? There were more UNSURE people than people that thought that guns were more dangerous?! That's got to be the most idiotic-

Whoa.... Do you hear that?

I think it's the sound of a political debate approaching.

...Run.

the same thing that happens when religious people die and realize there is no heaven.

Of course they think video games are a bigger threat than guns. They are a) stupid, and b ) pro-gun, so are hardly doing to vote against their precious firearms.

This is a silly poll, anyway. It's a leading question; the poll was constructed knowing what the outcome would be. You ask a group of pro-gun people to make a direct choice between guns or video games being more dangerous? Of course most of them are going to say video games. You could make the poll options 'Guns' and 'Raccoons' and more people would still pick the non-gun options. A fair poll would have at least a dozen options.

Well I'm a republican and I'm pro-gun, but guns are still the biggest threat. Not all Republicans are this dumb. They're giving the rest of us a bad name.

Well, they don't realize it, they're dead.

You're also a gamer, though. From the perspective of non-gamer pro-gun Republicans (which I should imagine is a majority), their allegiance is more cut-and-dry.

Have any of you considered the fact that there is large debate about the second amendment and talk of having Americans turn in their firearms because of the recent shooting? Perhaps pro-gun citizens are reading between the lines and saying "Don't ask me, that. That's stupid. I want to keep my gun."

I think it's standard republican fare over here. They'll blame everything besides the actual issue itself because they feel the need to cling to their guns.

No, let me assure you, a ton of people here think that guns are perfectly acceptable and that "people kill people", not the guns. They really do not care. I have no issue believing that this is true.

yea right? i use games to get out my frustration, not to teach me how to kill.. i think paint-ball and laser tag does that more then any game.. if a parent didn't BUY that M rated game for there child then it cant be blamed.. a parent should always be the one watching what a child plays.. even teens.. i dont care anymore if they are 17 and the game says M, if the parent buys the game they should go to jail. really i mean that .. the ESRB should have the option to take footage of parents letting there kids pick a game and then buying it for them and go to jail.. id even fine the clerk.. i hear of this sometimes.. but not enough..

i laugh SO hard when ppl say guns dont kill ppl ppl kill ppl they are a tool................ TOOL THAT WAS ONLY MADE TO KILL... did they make smaller cannons to shoot at clay pigeons no. there is no one who JUST wants a gun to shoot a clay pigeon they hope, they pray that there will be that break in and they get to feel what it is like to murder someone.. i do hope everyone opens there eyes to its not about " legal guns or illegal guns and that when they say "legal guns" are not used in mass shootings.. well legal guns are used in homicide EVERY day .. man kills his wife with a legal gun .. or wife shoots her man... legal or not the gun was used to do its job a job it has done very well from the day it was made .. its job is to kill and kill it does well.... there is something like 80K murders with guns every year and 50K "gun related deaths" with 400K wounded by guns.. that is like in a year ppl.. and thats not all war thats in the USA... you dont hear about it all the time cuz its usually only on local news. the numbers are from something i read on CNN... the numbers could be higher...

for the cost of most guns i can get a new solid door. and maybe some towards shatter proof windows. lets replace guns with knifes lol.. i cant remember the name of that movie where they outlawed all guns and the gangs took over with swords lol.

Guns don't kill people.

Guns don't kill people.
no bullets do or old guns that have been known to just shoot. guns were made to kill they kill ppl used as a tool or not it was part of what "killed someone" oh i forgot to laugh at your statement "HAHA" edit: also a stick was not made to be a spear but it can be. like i said guns were "made to kill". now heres how i would like to please stop this. to be killed.. i can be killed by a roof i can be killed by a strike of lightning i can be killed by a gun...used by a human to murder me. murder =humans. killed = something used to end life. AM I NOT RIGHT!?

People kill people. Guns are still the tool used though. And I think taking away the people is probably going to cause a lot more controversy.

I don't think republicans/conservatives are stupid, and while I wouldn't consider myself liberal, I would consider myself a whole lot of other things that aren't republican or conservative. I think they realize that video games are not the issue. But they need something to blame.

I am against civilians owning any sort of gun. Any. And I think that saying guns dont contribute or allow for easier killing is obviously false. BUT putting myself in the position of someone who cared a bit more about the constitution, I think the issue that should be being pushed isn't about whether guns facilitate violence, but what other means of protection we can enforce without taking away the ability to carry arms. In my eyes the government, the president, that sort of thing should all be people EVERYONE trusts. But as of now people can't trust each-other so if having guns makes them feel safe, and feel prepared should america turn into a dictatorship somehow, then let them have guns.

Trying to say that guns aren't made for killing though, and also trying to say video games are more violence inducing then such a weapon isn't right. I'm not saying guns necessarily trigger violence either, just that it does, for a fact, make it easier. I'm sure there is other means of going about this though then getting rid of guns or blaming (mostly) harmless pieces of entertainment. We CAN make everyone happy.

The problem with the US and the Bill of Rights is that the colonies united against the British, and the Declaration of Independence was a declaration of war. The second amendment was to allow the people to protect themselves from a tyrannous government that would impose on their "freedom."

It irritates me that someone's stance on something like gun control seems to dictate their entire political standing.
