A game where Mario's a villain?

Do you think we'll ever get one of these again?

I mean, he was pretty much one in Donkey Kong Jr (and you even got to 'kill' him by winning the game!), but since then he's always been played as a hero for obvious reasons.

Could this change? Is there a hope in hell we'll see another game where Mario is the antagonist rather than hero? Perhaps one in which Wario or Bowser or whoever is playable instead?

What do you think?

I think it's a neat idea to bring back again but if Mario was to be evil that would make children who play Mario want to be a bad Mario if you know what I mean. It's just confusing and some people wouldn't trust him again (or would they?). You would need a strange plot or something to make a final battle with Mario seem epic. Maybe if Mario was possessed like Peach becoming the Shadow Queen.

This. I once read a comment on YouTube that said something like:
Final Bosses in the Paper Mario series:

Paper Mario: Bowser
Paper Mario TTYD: Peach
Super Paper Mario: Luigi
Paper Mario 4: Mario?

Too bad it didn't happen, but maybe it could work for Paper Mario 5? Although I heard rumors saying Sticker Star would be the last one. :/

If Mario were ever depicted as an evil character, it would be from a perspective of someone or something that views Mario's normal actions. For example, if there was a game of building an army of Goombas, Koopas, etc. to defeat Mario and prevent his further squashing of their race. So, instead of Mario being possessed or something, he could be viewed as a villain for his current and routine actions.

It would be interesting to see mario as a villain... if it will happen. I don't think it will though

mario will probably never show up a villain again. because children love mario (such as my lil bro.) they want to be mario in some cases. so no he'll never be a villain again.

I think he could be an antagonist again however unlikely it is. When I think of Mario, I think of him as a hero and nothing else.

The best thing I can imagine is an alternative world where Mario and the mushroom kingdom gets captured and corrupted by the main villain. And Bowser on the other hand has no choice but to raise a rebellion against the evil forces..

This was impossible! :waluigi: :luigi: Mario is a hero not an antagonist! :dk: :banghead:

It hapenned.

Just watch here as it kind of explains Mario's evil ways:

But Mr.L could be an antagonist! :pacman: :luigi:

It didn't happen.

Can you see this? Mario was evil in a game, Luigi wasn't, yet you think it's fine to twist it.

Overall, it'd be great to see things from another view other than the same one we've seen for about 25 years.

Yeah, I was about to post the above videos.

To be honest, Mario isn't all that innocent anyway. I mean, according to the SMB manual, all the bricks in the Mushroom Kingdom are Toads who have been put under a spell, which means every block Mario has ever broken was a living thing.

Mario is a terrible human.

But by smashing brick blocks, which are made up of bricks (Toads in SMB), he's freeing them.

While he could be a boss (If it was a game where you play as Bowser), he's not a villain. Every Goomba and Koopa he kills is an enemy. Look at the Mario RPGs- He doesn't kill innocent Goombas and Koopas. Only the ones working for villains. Are soldiers villains for killing enemy soldiers? No. So even if there were an army of Goombas wanting revenge on him for killing their species, it would be unjust because he only kills the ones who work with villains.

Also, Game Theory are pretty unreliable.
