A year without new games/systems

So last week I was looking at the games at gamestop and there were a lot of them I wanted to play. But sadly I thought, I would never have the money or time to play them all and with new ones coming out I would never play many of these games.

Do you think there should be one year that no new video games or systems came out so people had a chance to play previous games?
 
No, since it will mean I have to pay more or wait longer for games which I don't feel like buying new.

I usually wait till a game is 20-40 dollars after a few months, and buy them. Plus, I can also buy it for a lot less on "used games" section on Amazon, Ebay, or stores once the game been out for months, and years.
 
I doubt the economy would drop as games would still be sold and return. and if this were to happen people would branch out and take up other consoles and handhelds. could end the war between PS3 and Xbox fans.
 
The discount game market might be slower since Used Games Stores have to wait a full year + a few months for new games to become old games which their previous owners beaten, but decided to sell their old finished games for cash to buy the next big game. But, there are plenty of games to sell.

New games might take longer to become "Greatest Hits" or "Platinum" versions since game company earn less when stores sell their games for 20-30 bucks instead of 60 when it is new.

I agree the economy would not drop since people will just spend their money on DLC, older games they never played, do all the side quest and hidden side quests in RPGs, so they can have more bang for their buck by completing everything in the game.

The PC market might have more fans since people spend money buying more PC games, a decent gaming PC, and tons of PC titles at their local computer store or Steam. Linux gaming might also be more popular since people have more time to learn how to use Linux, and use it for gaming instead of just using Windows for PC gaming. Linux has a few good games for it.

Some people might even start playing Freeware games like Maple Story, second life, Gunbound, Aeria games, Runescape, and other free games which makes money from sponsors, downloadable content, and online currency like "wow gold, linden dollars for second life"

There also will be fewer squeals for games which are not worth buying because there are not many major improvements to the game. For example, EA Need for Speed racing series has been coming out with games every year, and many people believe Need for Speed is not fun since there are not many new improvements from the previous versions.

Used games and returns hurt the economy; money is cycled through companies, thus destroying jobs. Video games have a very high percentage in yearly sales.
 
MMORPG like World of Warcraft, and Final Fantasy 11 probably won't be affected much by yearly releases since they earn a large chunk of their cash from subscriptions, Update packs like Cataclysm, and possibly downloadable content, digital goods, and "WoW gold".

A good game would earn cash for years since there are always people buying new consoles, or people who are finally the suitable age for an 18+ ESRB M-Rated game released a year a go.
