In an unexpected development, Apple and Amazon have struck an agreement to bring the Apple TV+ streaming service to Amazon’s Prime Video channels. This new partnership will allow Prime Video subscribers to add Apple TV+ to their subscriptions, joining other services like Max, Paramount+, AMC+, and Starz. Apple TV+ will be available for $9.99 per month, and viewers will be able to access its content directly through the Prime Video app. The service is set to launch later this month.
The deal was revealed by Prime Video chief Mike Hopkins during the Bloomberg Screentime Conference, where he praised Apple’s senior VP of services, Eddy Cue, and his team for making the agreement possible. Hopkins noted that both companies do significant business together and expressed excitement about the new collaboration.
Eddy Cue shared his enthusiasm, stating, “We want to make Apple TV+ and its award-winning content available to as many viewers as possible. We’re thrilled to partner with Prime Video, offering their subscribers more viewing options.”
The rationale behind this partnership seems to be scale, as Apple TV+ remains a smaller player in the streaming market compared to Amazon’s massive user base. Hopkins highlighted that Prime Video’s “hundreds of millions” of users make it an attractive platform for other services. The convenience of accessing multiple streaming services within one app is a key advantage for subscribers.
Apple TV+ offers popular shows like Ted Lasso, Slow Horses, The Morning Show, and Severance, as well as films like Wolfs and the global streaming rights to Major League Soccer. Although Prime Video has previously integrated other streaming platforms, this deal marks a notable shift for Apple, which has traditionally kept Apple TV+ as a core component of its Apple One bundle alongside services like Apple Music and Apple Arcade.
