Read From Kotaku:

Last week, Amazon Games released Crucible, a free-to-play, team-based shooter, to mild excitement. Eight days later, Crucible players are almost nowhere to be found on the (Amazon-owned) Twitch streaming service, a strong sign that the community around the game seems to be already dwindling.

Crucible, currently available only for PC, pits players against other players and alien creatures on a dangerous planet. Part Overwatch, part League Of Legends, with aesthetics that reminded me of Electronic Arts’ Anthem, Crucibleis... fine. Generic, yes, but playable, and even fun with a good team. But in a world with games like Valorant, Overwatch, Dota 2, and Fortnite, “fine” isn’t enough.

Crucible’s post-release beta comes on the heels of a rocky launch, which consisted of both a ho-hum critical response and a hollow thud of a landing on platforms like Steam and Amazon’s own Twitch. In a developer update posted today, Crucible franchise lead Colin Johanson said that the game is entering closed beta tomorrow, but it will continue to follow the development road map that’d been previously laid out.

The main goal of this unprecedented un-release is to more closely evolve the game in line with community feedback. “We’re setting up a community council, made up of beta participants of all playstyles from casual to highly competitive players, who we’ll be working especially closely with,” said Johanson. “One of the biggest changes you’ll see is that we’re going to schedule dedicated time each week when we as devs will be playing with the community and soliciting feedback.”

This means that if you’re not a Crucible player already, you’ll soon have to sign up through the game’s website in hopes of gaining access. If you’re already a Crucible player, Johanson said, the game will “stay pretty much the same while we’re in beta.”

All of this makes sense, to an extent. I don’t think there’s a game developer alive who wouldn’t try to give their flatlining game a second lease on life if they had Amazon’s resources to fall back on.

Hopefully, Crucible problems can be fixed, so it is better in the future.

Hard to believe they let it flop, shows having money isn't always best.

I feel the Coronavirus outbreak causing people to work from home may cause the quality of games to be not as good, or delayed even if you spend a lot of money making a game.

Working from home can be difficult for some workers because of slow internet, or problems contacting co-workers because of internet and cell phone connection problems.

As we learned from No Man’s Sky, it is worth it not to give up on improving your game, even if at launch it was considered underwhelming.

True. It's the same with Star Wars Battlefront 2 as well. That game had a bit of a rocky start but the developers did a pretty good job to bring it back.

Yep, I get the sunk cost fallacy issue always needs to be considered, but I think in most cases, it probably pays off to keep working on bringing a game around.

Especially if you plan on releasing more games in the future. If you give up on it fast, people are going to be reluctant about purchasing it later.

Well i guess they are gonna make it better since it's back to beta, hope for the from Crucible

Game is officially canceled by amazon:

Essence hunters,

In July we moved Crucible into closed beta. We made a list of features we felt would enhance the player experience, which we shared publicly on our roadmap, and with the exception of custom games (which we expect to ship in the coming days), we completed them all. With those features shipped, our next step was to evaluate the feedback we’ve heard from you, paired with the data we’ve collected, to determine our path forward.

That evaluation led us to a difficult decision: we’ll be discontinuing development on Crucible. We very much appreciate the way that our fans have rallied around our efforts, and we’ve loved seeing your responses to the changes we’ve made over the last few months, but ultimately we didn’t see a healthy, sustainable future ahead of Crucible. We’ll be transitioning our team to focus on New World and other upcoming projects from Amazon Games.

We’re offering a full refund for any purchases made. You can find more information on our support page. We will also be disabling credit purchases within Crucible.

In the next few weeks we’ll be hosting a final playtest and community celebration, both in-game and in our official Discord. After that point we’ll be disabling matchmaking, although you’ll still be able to play Crucible through the custom games feature. Stay tuned for more information on that event. Servers will stay up for custom games until noon PST on Monday, November 9, 2020.

Thank you, as always, for being part of our community. This has been a labor of love, and we’re grateful for the time we got to spend on planet Crucible with you.

Signing off once more, -the Crucible team

Sad to hear that Crucible closing down so soon.

I feel the Coronavirus pandemic causing workers to work from home may of cause Crucible to be cancelled sooner because working from home can be difficult for some workers who are used to working in a office with many fast workstation computers and co-workers, and dont have a good internet connection.

Oof I don't thought of that they will close the game without making it better

Proves there are too many gun games out there.

I agree there are a lot of gun games, and many squeals to older gun games like Halo, Call of Duty, BattleField, Doom, Quake, etc.

There are also many games with guns like Grand Theft Auto, Fable, World of Tanks, Twisted Metal, etc where you can use guns to shoot enemies, and do many other activities in the game.
