Yes, you heard right! As of September 1, 2013, Fall has officially started in Animal Crossing: New Leaf. It is evening where I live and I caught a Cricket. I looked in the encyclopedia at it:

So there you have it. It's in-game confirmation that should get ACNL launch buyers to get back in the game to get new stuff, like my Cricket.
