For the past month I have been playing ANNO 1800 and I thought I'd give you all the jist of the game.
Anno is an "Economical trading" city builder from the 1800s.
The game starts you off with an island to build homes and farmland and basic essentials such as clothing and building material. As the population increases opportunity and demands intensify to build more advanced items such as pocket watches and cigars.
You can use the ocean and pirate-like ships to find additional islands to build more colonies. Some islands have more fertile ground or have difference precious metals.
In the game there are 4 opponents and two pirate colonies that you can trade with if your relationship is good with them. If bad then ships will attack when they spot you.
The economy, population happiness, and trading is the core game. You can go broke EASY if you are not smart with picking good routes or balancing the weight of shipments for the speed of the ships your cash will disappear. If you want to produce things like Jewelry it requires a ton of production buildings coal and gold mines, pearl production, etc. Some create pollution, most will cost workers by the hundreds. If you set it up and they over-produce other necessities in the colony may get in demand and set you back. The sea is dangerous and ships get destroyed all of the time. There are times were is seems everyone is at war and you have to keep your ships near your docks.
Give it a shot if you like city builders.
