Seriously, I think the amount of times I've played even a Game Boy or DS game in 'local multiplayer' can be counted on one hand, and I've literally never played a 3DS game with someone in the same room.
Why?
You probably know full well why. No one over here owns a 3DS, and it's physically impossible to play any local multiplayer games with people in the same room if not everyone owns the system.
Anyone else in the same situation? And think that perhaps online multiplayer should be a required feature in every 3DS title with multiplayer functions from this point onwards?

I agree with every word here.
Ditto. I have no one to play with and the best multiplayer features tend to be local-only - even in PKMN X and Y.
I agree too. I mean in Japan, it's easy because apparently there's a great abundance of people who have 3DS's, but in other regions, there's a lacking so it makes local multiplayer useless. I'm kind of jealous of people who do get to use the feature, but whatever.
Hmm, since I started college I've been doing more local multiplayer than I ever used to And with the release of Pokemon X and Y there are even more people around college that have a 3DS, and at times I randomly have a battle using local play even though I cannot see the person I am up against I've done some trading as well with these people, some of which are in my friend group
