Anyone? If you are, who are you rooting for? Me, personally, am rooting for the US and Mexico. I'm Mexican-American if you didn't know.

Is the World Cup hockey or basketball? I almost want to say Baseball, but I think that's the World Series.

It's neither. The World Cup, or to give it it's full title, the FIFA World Cup (FIFA is short for Fédération Internationale de Football Association -- which translates into English as International Federation of Association Football), is as the name suggests, an Association Football tournament.

Association football, as most people will know... is known in Europe and other countries, as simply "football".

In America, however, the word "association" is shortened to "socc" and.... then they just added the 'er' at the end... hence "soccer".

(Also FIFA governs futsal and beach soccer as well as 'soccer').

Also, the next match is Netherlands vs Chile, which starts in 3 hours and 37 minutes. If you're in the UK, you'll probably know that it's on ITV.

And if you're in the UK.... you'll agree with this statement.

WE SUCK AT FOOTBALL (SOCCER)! England have lost their first two matches which and have been eliminated during the group stages. Which is the first time in history, IIRC.

Nope. But then again, if you're in the UK... you'd stop watching about now even if you did like football...

Well now I feel stupid. I don't really follow soccer even though I really loved playing it in fourth grade. However that is a good sports history lesson because I never knew why we called it soccer. I knew football was taken, but it never made sense.

You're better than Ireland at least ye can win matches in the Euros

Although I'm from the UK, and we're definitely going home (even though we still have one more match to play, against Costa Rica), we still watch some matches. We're not a "only our country matters" type of people.

And anyone who understands how scoring works will know why there's no way England will win.

So far, we have 0 points. Costa Rica has 6 points.

3 points are awarded for a win, 1 for a draw/tie, and 0 for a loss.

England have so far lost all of their 2 games so far, which means 2 x 0 = 0 points

Costa Rica have one both of their games so far, 2 x 3 = 6 points

If England win, they will have a total of 3 points.

The other two teams in the same group, also have 3 points, therefore, England, Uruguay and Italy will have 3 points each.

When the points are tied between two or more teams, other factors such as the number of wins, or losses, goals scored etc, are used.

In this case, England winning the next match will give them a total of 1 win, equal to the other 2 teams with 1 win each, however, their 2 losses alone would prevent them being last. In other words, England suck.

Yeah, though I already watch the Premier League since they air it here on NBCSN.

The match the other day drew a 9.1 rating in the US, so it's been getting decent viewership here in the states.

Hoping Germany doesn't trash us too hard. I know we'd get wrecked in the round of 8 (think we could move past belgium/algeria), but it'd be nice to come out of the best group.

We'll see. Lol @ Spain though. Terrible showing. Rooney was brutal for the UK too.

Soccer got a little more interesting. xD Apparently some player from Uruguay bit another player from Italy.

The US vs. Germany tomorrow. Yeesh. It's going to be brutal to either draw, or win against Germany. I'm being realistic here.

Edit: The US lost but they're into the round of sixteen.
