I think cars with manual gas and brake controls can be more safe and reliable because I never heard stories of drivers who drove a classic car which uses manual gas and brake controls randomly accelerating when their foot is not on the gas, and their foot is on the brake peddle.

But, there are news reports and online videos about sudden unintended acceleration happening on newer cars made by Toyota and other car companies which use electronics and computers to control how fast the engine move and brake pressure.

There are some drivers which claim their newer model car with computer controls does not slow down even when the gas is not being pressed and they are pressing the brake peddle very hard. The only way to stop the car is to turn off the car or shift it into Neutral.

Newer cars which use a car computer to control the gas, engine parts, and brake pressure maybe less safe in certain situations like if the car computer suddenly gets wet, short circuited, power surge, or a software bug suddenly give a bad software command to control the gas and power brake motors which control how much gas the engine gets and how hard the brakes are pressed to slow down the cars. The motors and extra parts which control power can also randomly break.

It's a 50/50 thing. Yes manual has less chance of failing you due to a computer issue, but at the same time a computer controlled car would better manage your driving.

Computer braking like ABS/Anti-lock brakes, brake force assist and traction control systems can help avoid random accidents like an animal like a deer running onto the road in front of a car.

I read a few complaints of cars automatically braking when there were no objects in front of the car, or the sensor got confused when a car driving a car beside a metal fence where the car is not in danger of crashing according to Automatic braking systems are braking at the wrong time, say investigators

Randomly stopping a car because of a computer problem is dangerous on a faster roads.

I think with computer braking, most drivers hope they work as expected, and the computer does not randomly crash or restarts making the brakes not work or work poorly.

But, with manual braking, you hope your driver's education car braking training, manual car brake parts are working properly, tires, and you have fast body reflexes which are fast enough to save yourself from crashing into something.

I think cars with gas computers which control how the gas is use does not improve safety as much, and can make a car more dangerous if the computer or sensors has problems and send a gas command to the car engine to make the car suddenly run at full speed.

Computer control cars use less gas because the computer manages gas better than manual gas control parts.

Hopefully, most cars let drivers quickly accelerate back to the speed limit after sudden unintentional braking, and quickly stop the car from sudden unintended acceleration. A faster accelerating car with good brakes would be better to quickly get up to the speed limit, or quickly stop the car with the brakes when the car is moving too fast from sudden acceleration.

I think it is safer to increase your car following distances when following behind a car, and warn drivers with a bumper sticker/sign on a back bumper not to follow too close to your car to prevent crashes if your car's sometimes suffer from sudden unintentional braking, strange handling, and random acceleration from a car software and computer hardware problem in the accelerator and braking software and hardware.
