Gods?

Goes to say that given enough time hackers can do anything to machines. And as the world embraces more technology in it's life the more control hackers can be given.

If things got to the point that machines are used to control the amount of food, water, ect. is given to people and people hack that. They could control if a person eats more if anything at more than other people.

So do you believe they are gods?

In the term god 'supernatural creator and overseer of humans and the universe' in a world that is completely run by machines and internet. Wouldn't hackers be considered god since they can create, destroy or ruin any person with enough skill.

Point taken. I didn't think you meant it in a dictionary sense. In that case, then yes, they technically are... on the Internet.

Can't say i agree, they'd get caught eventually, or just live in the fear of getting caught, constantly wondering if they didn't make a mistake somewhere. A god, my own definition of one at least, should be completely out of reach.

I agree - A God, to me, is someone/something that is untouchable and if a hacker can be anonymous and aware enough to never get caught then that hacker would be, by definition, a God.

They are definitely someone to fear at times being the access they do have to such personal/private information.

I only believe that there is one god.
But these hackers can be King of the Web or something.

even though people worship gods who never have been seen. I would consider a hacker the closet thing to a living god people will ever see.

Sorry but this is completely wrong. Any person on this planet if they want to can create, destroy or ruin any person. No matter how they do it they can do it, does that make us all gods?

Over time, anyone can do it. But with hackers in matter of seconds and minutes could destroy a person's whole life. Much like a god.

Hackers can destroy an entire community. I doubt any of us can do that.

And I wouldn't give anything the title of god. It's like calling myself a god if I hacked one of you. If I don't believe in the supposed god, it would be weird to believe an actual person is god. I like to think of them more as kings.

Trust me if one of these hackers hacked you and destroyed the community you have spent months possibly years building, you would NOT being calling them or even considering them as Gods or Kings.

All you are doing is glorifying what they do, which is completely wrong.

Terrorists can destroy entire communities in some countries with a single bomb. Does that make them Gods or Kings?

Or is it in fact just because someone can take something away from someone or a group of people with ease the reason you call them Gods? Why glorify such a person?

I think they are powerful online against individuals and companies, but not against a country.

Once a government shut down their internet to stop the flow of negative publicity of protester protesting on Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube by posting negative political videos about the country like during the Revolution in Libya, and Egypt last year, the hackers are powerless because the government unplugged the internet and power for everyone to try to hide their revolution from the rest of the world.

I see the internet being unplugged if the hacking or online protesting situation around the world gets out of hand.

Didn't you post a topic saying that people could somehow connect to a internet source outside of their country? Besides that good hackers would know how to stay connected.

Indeed, but it takes a lot of money to buy long distance wireless technology like satalites, antennaes, and a power source like a generator or bateries which is not easily available or affordable for the common everyday hacker who does not have money, or funding from someone richer like the government and buisnesses.

There also might be a secret OFF button for the internet which only a few governments and important people know about or turn off, so if the internet is off no one can hack via the regular ISP based internet.

I hacked my PSP, does that make me a terrorist? You can't compare the two. Terrorism is an act of violently hurting someone, whether physically or mentally. Hacking is usually very different because it is mostly just jailbreaking an iPhone, or a PS3, etc. They are like kings because they can open up a very wide range of stuff for us to do if we are not pleased with the basica iPhone, or the fact that the PSP GO can't play all of the PSP's titles.

Hacking a PSP or device of your own to enable access to something is very different from hackers hacking someone else and destroying lives/communities/companies.

How many hackers actually do that though? Anonymous is probably one of the best known hackers, and they do it for Internet freedom, not to destroy someone.

It's very possible there are many hackings going on in the world but are not reported so the company doesn't lose face or gain bad rep.

There is a off button for the internet, weather or not it would shut down what could be possibly a entity of it's own is unknown.
