Are Lyrics Important?

Do you feel that lyrics are important in songs? Or are they just part of it that can make it good or bad?


Recently the pop sensation song Gangnam Style is becoming big world wide which has people confused why since most are unlikely to know what he is saying besides sexy lady.

I personally feel that lyrics are not important, and I listen to a lot of songs which I have no idea what the words they are saying mean but they sound good and boost the song.

To back my statement, I know this song needs no lyrics:

In Japanese of course, but for English... Nobody really cares. Because the song lyrics are usually meant for a specific person or the person singing.


I learned that in English class. :P

Cant agree with that, even if they are usually meant for a specific person or the person singing, most people still identify themselves or someone they know in these lyrics.
 
Not always, and sometimes It's not direct, so you may not know what they are talking about.
 
Not really, its just profanity, if your listening to a regular song that's all that matters. :P
 
Yes, the lyrics are important, just as important as the message behind it.

I mean I'm pretty sure you wouldn't dance to a song that not only praises Hitler and the Holocaust, but also goes into deep detail about which racial or ethnic groups should be ethnically cleansed and why.

Quite agreed or QFT or took words right outta my mouth...or ditto! "Well said or put here sir!" I salute or command it!
 
Lyrics really are not the most important part of a song. I prefer music that has a good balance of all its instruments (vocals included), and sometimes I like to listen to music with barely any lyrics at all. This is coming from metalhead btw.
