Sometimes I think so. Remember the old days when you had one or two major legendaries a game and event Pokemon were few and far between? Those seem to be long gone now. Look:
Red and Blue
Main: Mewtwo
Extra: Articune/Moltres/Zapdos
Event: Mew
Gold and Silver
Main: Ho-oh/Lugia
Extra: Suicune, Entei, Raikou
Event: Celebi
Ruby and Sapphire
Main: Groudon/Kyogre/Rayquaza
Extra: Registeel/Regirock/Regice/Latias/Latios
Event: Jirachi/Deoxys
Diamond and Peal
Main: Dialga/Palkia/Girantina
Extra: Azelf/Mespirit/Uxie/Cresselia/Manaphy/Phione/Heatran/Regigigas
Event: Darkrai/Shaymin/Arceus
Black and White
Main: Zekrom/Reshiram/Kyurem
Extra: Cobalion/Terrakion/Virizion/Tornadus/Thundurus/Landorus
Event: Victini/Keldeo/Meloetta/Genesect
It seems like there's way too many extra legendary Pokemon nowadays, and when you then add the somewhat pointless additional events for old ones (remember things like the eon ticket or Mew on Faraway Island or Ho-oh/Lugia on Naval Rock?) and the extra ways to get old ones (the Arceus scene in Heartgold/Soulsilver, Groudon/Kyogre/Rayquaza being possible to get in the same game) it seems like too much focus is put on them.
Not to mention the games have gone from having them as sidequest rewards to having them as the main focus of the plot. You didn't need to catch or fight any in the first two generations, now you have to fight the cover legendary in every game (even the Gen II remakes).
Anyone agree?
