I was skeptical when they first announced it, but after playing with the game for a few days I'm really glad they added them. It adds to the longevity of the game and makes you more unpredictable when playing with friends (which I rather like).
I like that they are in there but I hate the moves they chose for some of the characters. I was expecting variety.
Like for example (and I know I've said this before but I'll say it again) for Wario it would've been the perfect opportunity to include moves based on Wario Land/World so they could please both Wario Land AND Wario Ware fans.
But no, all we got were some lazy variations on his existing moves.
It's a ton of wasted potential.
I haven't unlocked much of the other character's custom moves yet but from what I've seen they are mostly just slight variations.

That is definitely an issue I have with them. They're a nice feature, but yeah, they could have been more major changes. And based on different games.
Custom moves are great to collect however I might not be using them as they are different variations. <- I could change my mind. I think it is good to have them so you can have a sense of individuality, not to be a reference to a series. Wii Fit Trainer has an explosive deep breath move and that certainly isn't in any Wii Fit game to my knowledge of the series (which is pretty small). In the future I hope it happens but starting off and with people complaining about balancing it's easier to go with the alterations. It does give the 3DS version more attention too in the long run.
