Article Explains Why Smash Bros. 3DS Is A Bad Thing

It makes sense but what about the people who want both of the games? People will still buy the Wii U to get SSB4U...but just not as many. Either way the game will still sell good.

I found a release date for the games on vgleaks.com, apparently a store had it listed for May the somethingth, 2014. I'd actually like that.

That's way too soon. I feel the game won't even be close to done at point. I'm hoping November of this year.

Again - Nintendo said "Spring of 2014" so it won't be November.

Also, does it really matter if one version outsells the other? Either way it is all profit for Nintendo.

The official site only says 2014. And yes, it does matter because the Wii U is not making as much of a profit as Nintendo wishes for. The console version is going to have to compete with their handheld version, and the 3DS is way more popular. Yes, it's good that they will definitely profiting off this game, but it won't be a good thing if the existence of a portable version hurts the sales of the console version. However, I don't see the 3DS taking away sales since Smash Bros. is traditionally a game for the living room.

tl;dr: The game is planned to be released sometime this year, and since the series is traditionally on consoles, that version will have more appeal.

I just looked into it more and apparently a Nintendo executive from Germany had said Spring of 2014 and several days later Nintendo confirmed that date was a misquote.

as for tradition = more sales. I'm not too sure about that. Being able to take the game with you wherever you go has a lot of perks compared to being stuck in one spot with it. You need to factor that as well as the lower price of 3DS games versus Wii U's prices.

I still feel like most people will want it on the Wii U, and after Mario Kart comes out, I don't think the Wii U's success will be completely riding on Smash Bros. In any case, the people who have neither console currently, are probably more likely to buy the Wii U over a 3DS anyway. Don't most gamers who like fighting games tend to prefer consoles to handhelds? And the Wii U version is going to be way more impressive then the 3DS.

As for us, we'll be buying 3 copies of the stupid thing I imagine. Two 3DS, and one for the Wii U as well -_-;

I'm just thinking.

Portable>not portable.
