Rep. Al Green (D-Texas) filed an article of impeachment against President Trump on Tuesday, accusing the president of failing to notify or seek authorization from Congress before the U.S. launched strikes on three Iranian nuclear sites over the weekend.

The resolution alleges “abuse of presidential powers by disregarding the separation of powers—devolving American democracy into authoritarianism by unconstitutionally usurping Congress’s power to declare war.

“President Trump’s unilateral, unprovoked use of force without congressional authorization or notice constitutes an abuse of power when there was no imminent threat to the United States, which facilitates the devolution of American democracy into authoritarianism,” Green’s resolution reads.

Congress has the sole power to “declare war” under the Article 1 of the U.S. Constitution. Presidents of both parties have struck adversaries without approval from the legislature.

Green’s resolution labels Trump “an authoritarian president” and “a threat to American democracy.” The Texas Democrat also pointed to the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol, controversial immigration agenda and his attacks on federal judges in his push for impeachment.

While he states he did this for peace, actions speak louder than words and sending missiles to destroy another country's nuclear weapon base looks like a declaration of war to me. I highly doubt he's going to get impeached over this, he was threated to be impeached a couple of times in the past and that never happened unfortunately.

I don't think he declared war though.

He didn't declare war, he's been actively calling for peace for a while now. Democrats have been anti-Israel for the better part of a year, and any kind of aid in their favor is looked down as a no no.

Afraid calling for peace while having fighter planes go and bomb another nation won't get far. Also it's an act of war

Afraid the call to impeach is already dead in the vote.

Iran was threatening to bomb US interests if they got involved before they actually did.

If Congress has already given the president approval to start a war with a country, then the USAF can drop bombs on targets in the said country without any additional approval for each bomb from Congress as long as they are for destroying military-related targets that needed to be destroyed to win the war. Though the needed to be destroyed to win the war reasoning could be debateable and thus war crimes could happen. The problem with Trump is that Congress hasn't given any approval to start a war with Iran or approval for any special bombing/strike operation on Iran. The act of dropping a bomb to destroy a target in a country is an act of war. But this happened multiple times before, with other US presidents before Trump, ordering bombing runs without Congress' approval. So in this case it's a widespread issue and not just Trump.

Pretty sure Iran threatens all the time.

Indeed. It's Khamenei and his cohorts' MO.

Just like North Korea as in the past, but they never did anything. Iran and North Korea have always been like school children just talking. That's all they like to do and set fear, but our military isn't worried about them.

Iran really doesn't have a strong military or anything like that.
