Do you think right now is a bad time to buy a PS4? My friend was thinking about getting one but I told him he should wait as Sony is about due (in my opinion) to announce a new version PS4 like a slim or something like that with most likely better specs or at least more storage space. Even if the new version isn't worth getting, the current PS4 would get a reduce price at least.

Do you think now is a bad time to get a PS4 or think a new version might be announced at E3?

Yes, I think this is a bad time to get the PS4 since PS4 with 1TB hard drives maybe coming out in the future, and there maybe better PS4 bundles which come with a free game.

I can't really see them dropping the price this year. The PS4 is still selling extremely well (and in some cases, it still might be tough to even find one. I mean I was to a local store 2 weeks ago and they only had 1 PS4 available.) If they did drop the price, they'd best hope they have a massive supply of them sitting ready to go.

They may be getting ready to implement a 1 or 2TB drive though. That would be a really nice change for future systems. (I mean 500GB isn't much at all when games take anywhere from 20-65GB of space. Battlefield 4 is currently taking 64GB of space on our PS4... )

I think with the Steam Machine from Valve Steam Machine PC makers coming out soon, it is best to wait to see if there is a sale because of more competition from Steam Machine. Stuff usually drop in price when there are more console companies trying to get buyers by lowering prices of consoles.

There most likely be sales for PS4 on Black Friday, Christmas, and other holidays.

I wouldn't brave black friday for jack.

I bet, Cyber Monday would also have good deals on PS4, but a lot of the times, the good stuff will get sold out quickly on Cyber Monday on websites like Amazon, and sometimes the large amount of traffic can crash some store websites which were not prepared for the large amount of Cyber Monday traffic which overloads their website's server.

I at least hope they announce a new model soon, I want to buy the second version with most of the kinks worked out.
Literally had no problems with mine at all so I don't think there are any kinks. The only problem is hard drive space, whether they announce a larger version or just expect everyone to upgrade it themselves, or if they release a supported external hard drive that works I don't know. But haven't had any other issues. I don't think they will release a new console this year. They don't really need to, I see them doing it when sales dry up but some big games have boosted sales again so there isn't a need to... They'd be fighting against themselves in terms of sales.

I think Slim Playstations are cheaper to build, and ship to other countries, so I can see Sony making a Slim PS4 to save money, and make more money by selling Slim Playstations for $400, or more because it is slim, so people will pay more for a better look.

500GB hard drives will probably not be made in the near future by hard drive companies like WD, and Seagate which will force Sony to install 1TB hard drives in their PS4, or pay extra money to a hard drive maker to exclusively continue to make 500GB hard drives just for the PS4 because almost no one buy new 500GB hard drives these days.

Old hard drives sometimes go up in price because some laptops, desktops, and servers do not support hard drives which are larger in size because of BIOS and firmware incompatibility problems. Some companies, government and hobbyists sometimes buy older hard drives at a higher price because of how rare they are, so they can fix their older computer which is not compatible with newer hard drives.

Truthfully there aren't many kinks that need to be worked out with the PS4 now. I mean the CE errors that it had have largely been resolved, the batch of sabotaged PS4s has been fixed and no further shipments have been tampered with. They've rolled out various features in the updates to make the system better (like in update 2.5 which added the rest mode while apps are running function).

Though the only thing they really need to do to improve the system is launch one with a 2TB hard drive. (Skip the 1TB and go right for 2TB. Even 2TB can vanish quickly...) I mean system storage vanishes quickly when you only have ~400GB of usable space (by the time you factor in base 2 to base 10 conversion and space reserved for the OS) and each game takes anywhere from 20-40GB. (Though some take more... like Battlefield 4 with DLC consumes over 60GB.)
I would still love to see them roll out support for external hard drives to install games directly to (or at least transfer already installed games to). Though I'm not really sure if they'll do that.

And making the system slimmer sounds like a good idea... except I'm not sure how much smaller it really can be made for now. I mean the PS4 isn't really that big to begin with. (It's smaller in both width and height than the slim PS3 to begin with. Though it is slightly longer.)

It's too bad that Sony does not have a website or store where people can pick the hard drive size which they want to be installed on their PS4, and have it shipped to their home.
