With the advent of HD gaming, there has been an insane amount of western RPGs over the last few years, arguably beating out the old school JRPG type. With this we had classics on HD platforms like Fallout 3, the Elder Scrolls games, Mass Effect and such. This is arguably the best time for Nintendo to make such a jump to the said genre if they ever wished to, since they now have the hardware to maximize the potential: the Wii U. So, which one of their IP's will be best suited for this genre?
They have great worlds to work with already with Mario and the mushroom Kingdom or Zelda and the medieval Hyrule. Wouldnt it be great to have a KOTOR-like Metroid or Star Fox? How about that Pokemon game that everyone wished since the MMORPG boom?
Metroid, I have been DYING to have an RPG style one where you could level the add-on gear and her HP and defense. It would be very similar to Castlevania (before Hideo Kojima F-ed it all up and ruined it with the last three games). And with how the last Metroid - Other M - played it would easily be able to turn open-world. Although, it would lose a LOT of the platforming charm we have come to love (unless you think Prime is the best thing ever, which I do not).
what the heck, all but one of those franchises are already open world, 5 of them aren't RPG, and MOTHER! EARTHBOUND! MOTHER! EARTHBOUND! MOTHER! EARTHBOUND!

He does make a point, however, in Star Fox, unless you are talking Assault, isn't even possible to have open-world as it is a space shooter. Fire Emblem as well... tactical not an RPG or adventure game, so it would change the gameplay completely. I heard pikmin 3 was open-world but I know 1 and 2 weren't.
Western RPG? Then Zelda, if only because a Zelda version of Skyrim would be pretty cool.
MMORPG? Pokemon, it's the only Nintendo franchise I think could work in this format. Zelda? Gameplay would transition poorly to the MMORPG format, since it's more an action adventure than a basic RPG style game. Metroid? It's about a solitary experience, it'd go down as well as Hunters did with the more die hard fans, even more so with hundreds of bounty hunters running around the same areas. Fire Emblem? No idea. Pikmin? Don't think it'd work.
Star Fox would be interesting, although it'd have to be a space exploration/MMORPG hybrid, maybe not like FTL or Eve Online.
I'm sorry I might be confused, but I'm pretty sure Legend of Zelda isn't an RPG besides Zelda II. Star Fox isn't an RPG either. It's a rail shooter. Or in other games is a 3rd person shooter. Metroid isn't an RPG either. Niether is Pikmin for that matter. So as far as the best RPG on the list goes I'm going to say Pokemon.
I dont mean all of them are RPGs, i just meant to ask which current NINTENDO IP, regardless of gameplay would be a great WRPG. It doesnt mean it would have to be on the main series also, it could be spin off game for the hell of it
