when is sony going to come out with a better browser and other internet applications that it's lacking in. I can barely use youtube with my PS3 and the XL is crappy.

I'm not sure if Sony wants the PS3 to have a better browser since Sony also sell Laptops, Desktops, tablet PCs, and smart phones which can go online with Windows 7 or Google Android operating systems which Sony wants users to buy.

I barely use it's browser, but the Wii, in my opinion, is the only good console browser out there at the moment.

that's because it uses a actually browser. PS3, as far as I know, is some custom made throw together.

I think the Wii uses a modified version of the Opera Browser for PC, Mac, Linux, etc. http://www.opera.com/.
Sony came out with a Google TV which can go online, so I think they rather you buy a new Sony Google TV which have a web browser in it most likely the Google Chrome, or Android web browser then providing a good browsing experience on the PS3.

and I wish they made it so you can use it while playing a game just in case I need to look something up on gamefaqs.

I think browsing the web on a TV will be kind of hard to read the text unless you sit close to a TV or you have a huge TV.
I personally prefer using a Laptop, Tablet PC, or desktop to surf online because the text is easier to read, and easier to adjust the size by just pressing "CTRL + +" or "CTRL + -" on my keyboard.
The basic browser on the PS3 makes some people wished Sony never removed the "Other OS"/Linux feature from the PS3 since you can install Linux on your PS3, and use FireFox, Chrome, Opera, and other Linux compatible browsers on the PS3 via Linux.

Yes, I think people want to use FireFox, Opera, or Chrome in Other OS. Plus, Linux Operating Systems can usually playback more Video and music file formats, or newer formats since it is easy to install more codecs like Kazaa lite codec pack in Linux.
