I think they will release the black version when they feel like they are plateauing out with the white version. It may have something additional with it and will be a slightly lower price. Most companies go this route to stretch out a cycle and just make more money. I don't want a Wii U bad enough to take a white one, so I can sit down right beside Reggie and wait alongside with him.

My Wii console is black! It looks so different to my other wii! In the Uk i bought a wii as soon as it came out, and it was white, and came with a stand, and Wii Sports. I bought a new wii this year, and its Black and doesn't have a stand. I think it defiantly looks more like a "gaming" machine, rather than a children's machine now.
The black one looks stunning. Nintendo have always had this strategy in which they release colored-versions of their consoles mid-way through their lifespan. This is why i find it a bit odd they decided to release a black one much sooner this time around.
