Have to disagree there.

As was pointed out, Darker than black is one case of it not coming from manga or visual or light novels.

Some other popular anime include

Samurai champloo
Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann
Code Geass

And the list could go on.

Granted that that most anime are adaptions of manga and other novels, but not ALL of them
