I saw a few videos of people playing games on a phone with 256MB of RAM, but most of the videos are from 2012 or older, so I think games from 2012 or older can play on phones with 256MB of RAM.

Video I saw of a guy playing games on his slow low RAM phone.

Tweaked my y200 so i can run this games smoothly..
Sorry for the low quality video.

ZTE Blade
Android 2.2, 256MB RAM (the Blade has 512 but the Vodafone rom uses only 256)
GT racing runs mostly at normal speeds, occasionally it slows down a bit, when there are many opponents.

I don't think you can get by it with today's standards.

I agree it would be difficult to play any games at today's standards unless you use some sort of basic custom ROM where most of the system apps like dialer, text messaging apps, Chrome, YouTube, etc are removed, and you are just left with Android, and the bare minimum apps needed to run games.

But, even if you are using a basic Android Custom ROM, the games will probably lag when there is more action going on in the game.
