Can FF Still Save Square Enix?

At the moment, just in game, but they will probably make it for 3D TV's, like recent PS3 exclusives, and a few multiplatforms.

I hope not, I don't like buying other things to get a full experience out of games.

You don't, it's just an add on for people who want/have a 3D TV. I will buy one eventually, but I'll probably be playing this in HD.

Can Final Fantasy still save Square Enix?

Well, Final Fantasy has a loyal fanbase of I don't even know how many million. But if each were to buy the newest game for $59.99 then I think Square Enix would probably be eating good for a couple of decades. Even though they are rich already.

Ew, no. I'd rather have XIII graphics; they are way better. And I liked XIII better anyway; more fun for me. It would be cool to see XIII in a non-linear game... In other words, Versus XIII. Hahaha.

I have never been a massive FF player, dabbled a bit in 9 and 10 and working my way through 13 but I have noticed something that is a real issue with FF and will probably murder the company. Scale does not match player base.

JRPGs have always had a very select player base and dedicated fan base as they are completely different from mainstream games, especially in Western culture where we are accustomed to our Fallouts and Oblivions. If we consider this and the fact that Square has like 5 teams working on Final Fantasy with one being dedicated entirely to the cinematics of the games then we see the problem. You cannot put a massive hundred million dollar budget into a game that does not have a massive playerbase. I am no expert but I would Imagine that FF13 had a considerably bigger budget compared to its predecessors hence the massive dev time and sheer jaw dropping visuals. I think the publishers realised this as well and so attempted to compensate by opening up Final Fantasy to a mainstream audience by releasing it on multiple platforms as well as making the combat and level up system patronisingly simple.

So Final Fantasy 13 hit shelves and unfortunately things did not go well. Moxed reviews from the reviewers, a lot of criticism from the fans for selling out the franchise for the sake of money and only standard mainstream sales from the public who were probably still a bit overwhelmed by the sheer scale of the game and probably also put off a little by its fast pace.

All in all, not good for Square. I don't know much about FF14 as it seems to have passed like a disappointing whisper into the night. I think if Final Fantasy is going to save Square then they need to seriously consider reducing their estimations for the game as no matter how hard they try I just can't see it being a mainstream game, a least in the West.
