The subject is self-explanatory :)

So,can you really make a living using a blog?

If so, would you guys mind sharing your success tips?

Hmmm yes and no. You would really have to have a great subject and personailty to draw people in and get that ad revenue as well as donations. But since everyone has a blog these days, its nearly impossible to make a living off of them anymore.

You could make money if you have a good subject, and you are a good writer which post a lot of quality blog posts a day. Ads, and donations are one way to make money. Donations are not a very good way to make money because very few people donate money unless your site has a lot of visitors.

You can make money by using your blog to promote stuff you are selling on eBay, Amazon, Cafepress, or your self-hosted online store.

There are also ways to make money by helping Amazon, eBay, and other stores sell money by using an affiliate link which gives you 4-20% of earnings for helping stores sell stuff.

Some bloggers also get money from posting "Sponsored Posts", but some of those Sponsored Posts are sometimes overly promotional which can make your blog seem kind of spammy.

On the positive side, it is possible for many people to make hundreds  to thousands of dollars a year online once you create one decent website, or a few websites/blogs with new posts on a regular basis. I read that some website owners who started their website as a less experience kid who wanted to make a website, and they kept working on their sites for many years. After many years of hard work, and improving their site, their site becomes more profitable after many years of hard work.

It can be as cheap as $58 dollars a year for $4 a month web hosting, and $10+ dollar domain name, so having your own self-hosted blog with a domain name, and web hosting is affordable for most people.

I don't really recommend using Blogger.com, Wordpress.com, and other free blogging services since they can shut down at any time without notice, and you lose your blogs website address, and your blog posts because you don't own the domain, or subscribe to the web hosting. Plus, you can't easily switch web hosts, and domain name registrars if the free host is bad.

It would be very difficult to make a living just from a blog. I mean, you would have to be super-famous, like a sort of internet celebrity, and draw a massive ammount of traffic to earn enough...

But don't get discouraged. Even if you can't make a living from a blog, you can still earn some extra-money by having a steady daily traffic and by using the right monetization methods.

There are some people who make money by running many websites, YouTube Channels, and other sites which pay money for user generated content.

It is pretty affordable to run many sites since domain names can be as cheap as $10 a year, and you can use the same $10 a month web hosting sites to host many low to medium traffic sites.

I think it is possible to make $10,000 a year after months to years of hard work, and promoting your multiple sites, YouTube channels, and other sites which pay money to content creators.

Way easier to earn a living from a blog than it is from a forum. What your referencing is a personal blog... In which case you would need to be in the public eye for the blog to be interesting enough. However someone could make a blog on a topic and not need to be "famous" as long as content is good and well optimised.

I agree, making a blog on a topic which you are familiar with, can make money because there are tons of people looking for information on a topic like gardening. Many readers care most about quality of the content which help them learn something new rather than the author's popularity.

There are also more ways to promote your content these days on social networks, search engines, web directories, guest blogging on more popular blogs, YouTube, and forums which did not exist in the early days of the web where most websites where mainly text files.
