Cats or dogs?

Which kind of pet do you prefer?

Tough decision. I tend to like cats for the independence, but dogs are very friendly. So, I would have to say well trained dogs, or smart cats.

I agree, I like both...but they need to be behaved. A noble Dog is awesome, but so is a laid back cat.

Dogs. They are loyal, while still having their own personality. I hate cats, because they tend to do what they want, even if you train them. Of course, it's not exactly their fault, because dogs have more brain capacity than cats.

Though I do love kittens.

I've owned both and loved both.
Cats are awesome, despite being assholes, are fun animals.
Dogs are fun and always happy to play and they can be very energetic.
Cats are a little more personal in someways because they're not running and playing all the time and like to be pet like 24/7 and have somewhat slower movements making them a little more emotional animals, despite still being assholes.
Dogs are fun to pet in your lap and play catch with and are less resistant to training than cats.

It's really up to the person. If you want something to play with and run around and pet, a dog is great.
If you don't mind clawed faces, and want something you can bond with a little more, cats are better. Not to say you can't bond with dogs, but I see cats are often a bit more passionate.

I have both right now... So I'm really unsure about which. I like them both. ^-^

This is a late quote, but why do people think that if something dosen't do what you say it's not smart, when it's the opposite. Things shouldn't do whatever you say, if they do they aren't really that smart. This is why I don't like typical dogs people think are "smart" such as golden retrievers and what not. Being someones slave dosen't add to intelligence it means your a sucker. However if your saying that it's easier to communicate with dogs then I understand.

As stated above I like dogs and cats as long as they don't just mindlessly listen to you and expect no reward.

Everything in bold is the stuff I disagree with.
How do you think people train dogs in the first place? Do what the master says, you get a delicious smacko or something. Cats are simply stubborn.
Also, I like dogs better.

Who says your their master? They are living creatures too not your toy.

Also what you just said means you AGREE with me. You give them a reward when they do something good. Which is what I said is reasonable reason to do something.

Dogs are loyal.
Also, Golden retrievers are smart because they are more intelligent than the average dog would be. i.e Learn tricks faster, do more stuff, BUT, doesn't necessarily need to be obedient. Cats = Stubborn, but might even be smarter than us. Dogs = loyal, obedient. Sometimes really smart.

Actually golden retrievers are one of the DUMBEST dogs. Compared to other dogs they learn tricks slower actually. They are lazy most of the time, and never do anything outside the things you show them. Have you ever had a dog? If so anything besides a golden retriever? I taught my Rottweiler to learn how to sit, stay, lie down, roll over, speak, run away, come here, and drop it in the matter of 4 days. A golden retriever would take well over two weeks to do that. A sign of intelligence is chosen aggression. If a dog dosen't automatically love you, and has to get to know you to trust you its smart. If a dog shows aggression to certain people but not all, it's smart. You wouldn't trust anyone you knew would you?

Golden retrievers pretty much love everyone and never show any aggression.

I have to disagree there, floof. I have two goldens. I agree that they're pretty stupid, but they can be quite a bit aggressive.
