In reading an article on Forbes, Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aimé was quoted as not being concerned about the horsepower of the new Nintendo NX system as the emphasis was going to be on the content available for the system. Since it appears that the Nintendo NX may not even have the processing capability of the current PS4, will this cause the Nintendo NX system to be a flop due to its inferior capabilities in processing and VR capabilities?

The quote pulled from the Forbes article is below:

"But then there are the comments that Reggie made about the NX. Here’s what he said when asked about the power level of the system, and how it would stack up to new offerings from Microsoft and Sony.

“For us, it’s not about specs, it’s not about teraflops, it’s not about the horsepower of a particular system. For us, it’s about the content…We’re focused on bringing our best entertainment to both the Wii U as well as the NX in the future. So for us, whatever Microsoft and Sony are doing in terms of talking about new systems, that’s for them to fight out in that red ocean.”

I want its exact specs before I say anything, but I do hope the NX can be close to the PS4.

Of course the COO of Nintendo will say that. Even it was as powerful or even more than the PS4, he would say the same statement because the Scorpio and Neo are at the horizon. And Nintendo was never about power. It is about innovation. I think we shouldn't worry and this statement doesn't imply anything.

The performance doesn't affect me at all, but I am not a good person to ask. As a diehard Nintendo fan, I will buy every console they release no matter what. I have such an attachment to the characters and games. With that said, I don't think Nintendo will ever be that console again that has the best specs. That isn't the direction they are going anymore.

The performance of the Nintendo NX is going to be an issue for a lot of people, even if they say it isn't. Nobody is going to pay a premium price for a system that isn't as powerful as one that came out three or four years ago, no matter how much they love the Nintendo brand.

As far as VR is concerned, I'm not overly bothered about it at the moment as things stand, but if your talking about the NX, your going to want some future proofing for at least the next few years, and if VR IS going to be the future of gaming as people think it is, the NX not being powerful enough to support it could be a major headache for Nintendo.

VR will not be a big deal for me. There are also not many VR games out now. I think releasing good first party game, and having more good thirdparty, and exclusive thirdparty games is what is most important to gamers.

I don't think the VR will be the future of gaming. They will have great games for it. Most homes won't buy it as the home flat screen is whats in the traditional household right now. Those TVs aren't 4k either. So what will work and sell is what will be compatible with what most people have in their homes now. It's not Vr, it's not Kinect, and it won't be a 4k TV. Those owners are but a fraction of the consumer market.

You might be right, and saying it could be the future of gaming might be a going a bit too far, at the same time the NX not being able to handle it if it is would be a worry for me. For a premium console like what the NX is supposed to be, I would expect it to be able to deliver just as much as it's competitors, and from what we've seen at the moment it seems like it might be somewhat lacking.
