What's dumber than a police officer saying "I get paid to beat up n*****s like you" out loud? Saying it into a microphone where someone else is recording it to put it on the internet.

A Deputy from the Jackson County Sheriff's Office has been fired after he was filmed making threats against an opponent during a round of Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare.

The footage captures the former Deputy — Michael Slater — entering into an argument with another player known only as "David" (who was making a "trolling" video), which quickly escalates, to the point where Slater can be heard giving his home address to the man so that they can presumably thrown down.

It's around this time that Slater can be heard saying "You about to come to a f*****g paid police officer's house. I get paid to beat up n*****s like you."

He even gives out his badge number as "proof" of his identity.

Cherie Ward, a spokesperson for the Sheriff's Office, confirmed to The Clarion-Ledger (via Ars Technica) that it was indeed Slater making the threats on the video, and that he was "terminated immediately after the sheriff became aware of the video".

If you don't mind the NSFW language, you can watch the video below.

It's a good thing that this guy is no longer working for the police department, and carrying a gun in public as a police officer.

Police departments should do a better job doing background checks, and investigations on new hires before hiring people to avoid hiring people who are racist, and have anger issues.

I don't think it's entirely possible to completely avoid hiring people who have personal opinions about others of various races, skin colors, ages, weight, etc. Humanity as a species is flawed and almost everyone has looked down on another for some reason or another, whether we're proud of it or not.

I do agree that the Sheriff's department made the right call firing someone who made threats against someone online though, that's a serious thing.

Problem is and a lot will deny it but everyone is racist to a certain point. This moron is just and ass and deserved to lose his job.

Why people are still rascist this day and age I'll never know :wallbash: ... and not just the racism "everyone" does, like only wanting to date people of their own race and what not. I'm glad he got fired, he's essentially a publice figure and should be/kow better than that.

Me too. I don't think they should be re hired though, most of the times  they obviously got fired for a good reason.

From what I know it's not that they want to let the cop go, but they have to save face, so it's a "strategic" move, and then they get their cop back.

That is obviously dumb on the part of the officer, but I have to say that it's scary as well.  If the officer can say that while playing a game, what is he doing day to day while performing his duties?  With all of the violence being reported in the media against minorities, I have to wonder if this is a pervasive issue among law enforcement in general.  I like to try to keep an open mind, but this seems to be happening too often.

That's really horrible. I've never seen such a thing happen and that's really shocking to be honest. I think of cops as most likely people who will think highly of themselves or people who are capable of more than a regular person, which I also think is untrue and shouldn't even be true because they're normal people just public servants who are supposed to protect the country, not use their credentials to bully people.

Okay, I know this is going to be an unpopular opinion here, but let's be honest: most of us say and do things over the internet when we believe that we have a cloak of anonymity to shield us from any consequences. And that is exactly what happened here: the fact that he was a police officer just happened to be one of the many things about him.

I'm not saying that the police officer should not have been punished or stripped of his service, I'm just saying we shouldn't be so quick to grab our pitchforks and go crazy on him. What he said was indeed vile and the highest form of repulsive: we just shouldn't be so eager to get at his throat.

This is what I think usually happens. They fire the person pretty much for a show to the public and then hire them back a short time later but on the quiet. Happens in politics too but that's a different story entirely!

I honestly don't understand people with this guy's mentality. I thought we dealt with race issues a long time ago. Most of us normal, well-adjusted human beings like to engage with others of different races and religious backgrounds in a positive manner. Hopefully the mainstream media won't go around trying to label gamers in general, as racists because of this incident. We all know what they think of our hobby and try to bash us at every turn.

This guy is obviously an idiot... That being said, I don't like that we now live in a world where people can lose their jobs because of things they say or do outside of work.

How can one be so stupid, to the point of giving your darn home address, and even worse, your badge number *as proof*? I really wonder how much he bribed people in order to be able of entering the police department, else I really don't see how such stupid people manage to *protect our interests*. And when you think that we pay them, haha.

I saw the title of this thread and was ready to come to the defense of the cop for being allowed to say whatever he wants in his personal life. Who doesn't say stupid things over Xbox live and talk smack? It's almost a requirement really.

But this guy is one of the biggest idiots I've read about in a long time. Why would he give out his personal information? Why even mention you're a cop? He had to have known this would come back and bite him in the butt. Glad this guy is out of uniform and out of the police force.

That's terrible. I'm sure the guy was drunk or something.  That's completely unnecessary and stupid.  That's good that police department acknowledged the misconduct instead of simply sweeping it under rug.  That guy would be lucky to now get a mall security job.

Wow. I'm not a cop hater by any means, but I'm kind of glad that this person was fired. We don't need people like that working in law enforcement. It's just a video game people.
