I agree it is difficult to have a face to face private voice conversations because many new electronics and house hold machines like fridges, coffee makers, and lamps may have a mic, and operating system and apps which can listen into people's conversations, and watch people through a webcam if the device contains a webcam.

There are some remote controls with a built-in microphone for digital cable boxes, so there is a chance that your cable TV company or the government is using the microphone on the remote control to spy on users.
